Heard of this song, but had never actually listened to it before today. Just went and looked up the lyrics, and now I'm crying. Janis might as well have written this song for me, because that's how my life was, and still is. Except I didn't have a "ravaged face," and I wasn't ugly - and neither is/was Janis! - but other people chose to call us ugly, and act as though we were ugly, and so the label became "ours" even though it was horribly inaccurate, and unfathomably destructive.
I was called more repugnant names than you can possibly imagine when I was a kid/middle schooler/high schooler, and they've stuck all these years...in spite of the fact that folks *now* tell me that they think I'm beautiful, and that I ought to model. I never know what to believe. And most guys continue to act as though I don't exist...

I don't recall she attacked anyone, whatever.
i don't recall saying anything of the sort in my post.
i specifically asked members to send PMs to a moderator if they had any questions, as this is not a subject for public discussion. we are just advising members so they don't try to have a one-sided discussion with a member on a break. any further posts about the member will be removed.

I truly hope that you're out to impress yourself first...

I do it because it is endearing to the soul and also because I'm passionate about it, If I attract those who want to share or seize the moment with me, I am open to sharing it. I love anything creative whether it is walking around a town appreciating the architecture to designing tattoo pieces to reciting literature.
Some people are under some type of illusion that people with good looks or bodies aren't skilled in other areas or don't have other skill sets because of how they appear to be but that is rather just a stereotypical comment to generalize people.

but what you are failing to understand is that people like b9 are equally as goodlooking (in completely different ways) but are much less shallow in the women that they care to attract. they also don't go seeking random sex or boast about the conquests just for the sake of getting reinforcement.

Of course - and that's not what I meant.

Not at all, I don't think there's anything wrong or shallow about wanting someone who takes as much care of themselves. It's important to have things like similar diets, that's why many people who live the gym or health lifestyle end up dating other people that might attend a gym. Fitness is a lifestyle, not something that you take lightly. If I take care of my skin and body, I would expect the same from my partner but I also will be impressed if they are articulate, artistic or have other talents that don't pertain to their looks.
If a girl can play a piano or paint a beautiful picture, I'm likely to be impressed by that. Of course, looks aren't everything, personality and talents are factors just as looks are.

if it is about fitness then you would date a morbidly obese woman who was physically fit, right? let's say she runs marathons and works out every day for an hour or more, and eats healthy food. i have met such a woman, so it is definitely possible.
naturally, she is also artistic and talented and all the rest for the sake of argument.

Nope because that's impossible for someone to be obese and fit at the same time. She's either doing something wrong with her caloric intake or she isn't putting enough intensity into a workout to achieve the results. I can go in the gym and walk at 3mph for an hour, that doesn't mean I have done an intense workout so the length of time she puts into the workout doesn't make her fit, it's about how much intensity is in the workout.
Have you ever seen an obese marathon runner in the Olympics or in any competition because I'm pretty sure the body adapts to the sport you participate in. Marathons runners look like marathon runners, swimmers look like swimmers, weightlifters look like weightlifters.
Does that mean I'll discriminate against her because she's obese? No, does that mean I'm shallow because I'm not interested? No, does that mean I couldn't have a friendship with her? No.
There's nothing discriminatory about men being selective in choosing partners, women do it all the time except they do it in a more subtle way and it's perfectly justifiable.

Someone like this?

Humour, character and a sense of fun are all important factors to me like looks, everything is a determining factor which builds up attraction, however depth is also important, just reading some of the comments I have got on Plenty of fish now.
"Hi how you doing? Can I say when I read your profile I was crying with laughter, best profile i've seen on here! X"
"Me
I think it is time I tell you what people are saying behind your back. The best curve on you is your smile, just kidding, Nice Arse! LOL
Her
Haha!! ! U ok babe? XxX"
"Me
Was your dad a baker because you've got a nice sets on buns.
Her
That's a nice shirt, can I talk you out of it?"
You know the first thing that matters to me is if I can put a smile on her face, make her giggle, make her have a fun time and I hope she feels the same way so I'm definitely not shallow because there are many many factors that determine how I feel about someone. I'm simply saying that things like sharing the same diet and lifestyle choices are mandatory so I wouldn't date a smoker, heavy drinker or someone obese.
I truly hope that you're out to impress yourself first...

yes, it is actually possible to be obese and fit.

many people who run marathons are overweight or obese, as well. it is not a prerequisite that a person needs to be thin in order to be healthy. it has been shown time and again that obese people can be healthy if they have the proper lifestyle.
so if you are unwilling to date a person based on them being obese, it is strictly due to aesthetics and not due to their level of fitness. nobody said you are not allowed to have that bias, but be honest and at least admit that that the bias exists. no sense pretending that it's not a shallow preference.
