I've just realised Calvin Harris is a bad example. I started thinking he was cute after I saw him interviewed during his early geeky stage and I just thought his personality was lovely. He was kinda quiet, but also kinda funny. It was an ITV show called The hot desk.

Anyhoo. Back to the topic.

I do think this is an aspire black and white thinking thing.

Guy is attractive or not attractive. No inbetween. No shades of grey.

Women either like only attractive men or they don't. No shades of grey. No in between.

Women are delusional or they are not. No nuances.

There's no point arguing with black and white thinking. It's like talking to a flat earther.

Well, It's you and Sweetleaf and others are thinking in black/white too, we tell this study shows that looks matter to women to a degree, then you tell us no you care about personality. Saying that looks matter doesn't mean it's the only thing that matters or even it's the first priority. No one claimed that here.

But your white/black mindset took it as a claim that you only care about looks.

Look, guys like me (very short), like sly (he claims to be not a looker and overweight), and like Sabreclaw (he claims to look like a monster)....etc and like many others know very well first hand, based on experiences and observations and our observation of their reactions to handsome men and handsome celebs in general, that the claim that women generally don't care or even care less about looks than men, is so untrue.

And this study just confirms this reality.

Suppose we are both taking it personal and assuming. I personally believe they just mis wording their idea, I think they mean looks aren't the most important thing and that they could date a average guy and eventually find him more attractive due to his personality. The way they said it implies they'd date the hunch back one eye, two tooth, hibiliy that makes them vomit in their mouth at each sight cause he has a great personality. Even in the movie he ends up alone, in a Disney movie, they lady goes for th handsome guy. No happy every after for him. If they truely mean what the wording implies i dont know what to say. I truely could not see that happening

Also yes most women find me unattractive I've posted my picture here and besides the older guys here I didn't get good reactions except from two women. I posted my pic on ugly or not and got 20-30 horrible reviews from women saying I'm freaking ugly. That combined with being told I'm unattractive by pleanty of women on dating sites and cl, I'm not really asumming much. Also I have eyes I see other guys. They much better looking then me. Even fatter guys. In comparison due to my hieght I'm not that fat opposed to others your height and more weight then me. I can't sadly change my face, well not without thousands of dollars for surgery which if I win the lottery I'm going consider. I also aside from lottery can't change my income :(

For the record sweetleaf said in another thread she wouldn't want a relationship with someone she doesn't find at all physically attractive. So looks do matter to her.shes normal human.

Its the way you phrase the titles of your threads boo. You're deliberately condescending and inflammatory.

How were we me a t to take it?

We know we like certain looks. So it sounded like you were saying we were unaware of that. We are aware of that.

Being told what we think is annoying and it will put us on the defensive.

What was your purpose with this thread other than to be smug?

But that would be looks aren't all that matter. Which is quite different then looks don't matter. One means you don't solely base your decision on someone's looks, the other means you'd date someone no matter how much they look like makes you want to vomit.

I dont know what serial dating is, but if a girl finds me unattractive she isn't going give the chance to get to the next stage. They won't even exchange messages and in person they just flat out ignore me.

Clearly people must feel shame if they try to hide it. It seems to make you sound like a better person if you say looks don't matter to me. I'd guess.
How do you get time and exposure though if they won't even message me back, non less meet up in person.
I'd wager a lot of good looking people are rather selfish and mean at least from my experience. Years of being made to feel they're better then less good looking people I suppose

All I have going for me is my personality. Which is only 1/3 of the pie, even thing it's probably not the personality most women would like. I'm no dominanting or strong. I, submissive and weak. I have a kind personality that tries to save bugs and animals rather then killing them for fun or running around in the woods getting muddy and ticks. Not a manly man I guess is quickest way to explain it. While it seems most women want a strong manly man who can provide, has a six PAck abs , handsome face. I dont know what to do anymore and my situation won't ever change.

Start by having a read of Jacoby's thread. He has P.M.A (= positive mental attitude).

You would be surprised just how much of a difference projecting a positive mental attitude makes to peoples' perceptions of you. Positivity draws positivity. It's easy to give in sometimes and not have the will to fight but, it shows strength of character that is miles better than coming across as bitter and downtrodden and weak.

It's a package thing ( pma/looks/personality etc) I'd love to give you words that may potentially be lies, but I won't. Truth is, I don't know whether it will make a difference in your life or not but I DO know that it won't hurt you in the way that being angry and bitter definitely would.
You only have to look at some of the attitudes and angry posts here to see my point. Don't be one of those people. It's ugly. It spreads it's miasma across this sub-forum. Don't be that person. Yes, it's harder to stay positive in the face of adversity, especially for some people here but, even more reason to slog away at it. You help yourself, if you do. That bit is important, cos staying positive is "for you" first and foremost.

A combination of things are required to be appealing generally speaking, and I mean for more than just dating here. Just keep trying. That's all you can do. That's what Jacoby has done and it's clearly making a difference. Be the person that regardless of the challenges, keeps at it.

This whole thread is, imo, disingenuous, and this will be my last post on it. A study proving a bias (the OP's) means nothing. Everyone has their own wish list and determine on an individual basis what they will be flexible on. Inter-personal relationships are founded upon give and take ime, be it friendships or relationships.

Looks and its importance is just one of the factors in play, for some. For others, it's something else. Main thing is, don't go by what others are doing. What works for them, isn't relevant or important "for you". I don't know what you look like but you are confident in your personality instead of your looks, so then ok, online dating won't work best for you but maybe focus in meat space only. It will take time and effort. But that's where that positivity thing comes into play.

Seriously, read Jacoby's thread. It should be pinned. It says everything and then some. Give it a read.

Why is it women insist that they are different and better then men and don't care at all about how a guy looks? (

This is the problem right here. No one insisted this, no one said this except you and The_Face_of_Boo. This is the strawman you have both created and are arguing with. None of the women who have commented in this thread, whether they have said looks matter to them or they don't matter, said those things and yet here you are arguing that we did. Neither of you are actually listening to what women say, you're just assuming what we think while dismissing our actual words and arguing with your own assumptions rather than with what we're actually saying. This is how your bias against women is limiting you in these discussions, it's causing you to not listen to any of us and put words in our mouths.

^ not the women in this thread, but the "women don't care about looks like men" and "men care much more about looks than women" are popular narratives everywhere; and we hear it a lot, all the time, from many women in life and online, and yes even on WP in some earlier threads.

This study simply proved this popular narrative to be wrong.

Maybe you hear it a lot but that doesn't mean it applies to all women, and obviously not to all women here. So stop talking at women like you know what we're thinking better than we do, and arguing with things we're not even saying. It's condescending and sexist and repulsive.

Boofle's post is really good. She's right it is harder for some of us to be positive (me. I'm one of those people) but the only person we hurt is ourselves.

I've been feeling like no one round here likes me. So rather than keep on moaning about it i'm finding activities to invite people to.

So far so good. Got a female friend who wants to go to an exercise class with me.
