To be honest, I disagree ... but that's OK.
I doubt men cared that much throughout history.
It was all about them.

I'd be more inclined to say a lot of the human race was conceived through rape or lack of consent.
That includes wives and girlfriends who weren't in the mood.

I'm not saying women can't be in the mood.
I just doubt most men knew how to get them there.

Yes I agree with your points. Women were considered property up the 19th century so were likely take by their husbands when they were not ready so likely conception happened when they weren't in the mood.

An interesting fact is that the old Anglo-Saxon word for woman was "Wife-man" which literally means belonging to a man.

Lol -- Sorry, I don't catch tongue-in-cheek jokes.
I'm quite literal.

Anal sex was quite common up to the late 19th C.
Women preferred it so they wouldn't get knocked up.

I think a lot of babies were also born from impulsive sex.
Both partners might have been willing, but only in the heat-of-the-moment.

Many years ago I read the adventures of the traveller/explorer Richard Burton (not the actor) who travelled in the central Asia, middle east and India in the 19th century. He documented that among many of the women in the middle east they also practiced various forms of mutual masturbation with men that did not result in pregnancy. This is well documented in the Karma Sutra in India where many of pictures involve techniques that result in orgasm but not in pregnancy.

I think its been mentioned more than one time by female WP members that they like to spice things up in the bedroom. The perception that a bad boy will give enjoyable sex is perhaps like choosing an exotic destination for a holiday rather than a day trip to a local place that's 1hr drive away that you've been to hundreds of times before.

Bad Boys are generally better in bed.
I'd rather a red-blooded assertive guy than some wilting wimp.

Yes the legacy of the christian puritans and pan-islamicists is that sex became a forbidden concept in both societies. Actually even in the middle ages feudal lords even controlled access to sex among villagers under the auspices of christian morality to the point a man and woman could not kiss without the permission of the village elder or fuedal lord.

In muslim societies up to the 19th century the common folk still engaged in sexual activity but by the 20th century the pan-islamic movements across the islamic world made all of this behavior verboten.

When I was in Malaysia creepy religious police would lurk around the botanical gardens trying to catch young muslim couples "canoodling" so they could arrest them. It was really quite weird.
