I'd Imagine that to be higher, but than again it's been proven that we're genetically hardwired to seek certain out traits.

I suppose. I think it may be a result of the environment and culture you've grown up in. *shrug*

I have nothing but respect for your attempts to loose weight. Not for your appearance, but because in the long run it's great for your health.

She's beautiful the way she is.

actually, studies have shown... in the long run for health it is best to be average or overweight, using BMI calculations. obese and underweight are not so great, but being overweight has positive health benefits. i posted about that elsewhere.

This.

Women who have very little body fat due to semi-starvation diets often suffer from fertility problems.

I wasn't saying being underweight is being a good thing, but being obese is bad. Obesity is the number cause of preventable death now.

I wasn't saying being underweight is being a bad thing, but being obese is. Obesity is the number cause of preventable death now.

actually, as far as i can tell, tobacco still heads up that list by a landslide.

worldwide, hypertension is the number one cause, which can be caused or exacerbated by obesity, but not always. they are separate conditions.

also, the national institute of health doesn't think it is that easy to figure out how many deaths are caused by obesity:

Quote:
We have identified important limitations in the data that are currently available to estimate the number of deaths in the United States that are attributable to obesity. Our examination suggests that given present knowledge about the epidemiology of obesity, and especially the impact of age on mortality risks associated with obesity, it may be difficult to develop accurate and precise estimates. We urge caution in the use of current estimates of the number of deaths attributable to obesity and also urge researchers to devote greater efforts to improve the data and methods used to estimate this important public health statistic.

EDIT: you also are assuming Erisad is obese.

According to BMI, I am obese class 2 with a (37 BMI I think) but according to my body fat content I am just overweight on the border of being obese. I think the latter is more accurate. I do have a lot of muscle in my legs from marching band and fight choreography. Either way, I still have to lose weight so I don't die. A smaller clothing size is a perk of that I guess. When I look at these scales I feel that they exaggerate how bad I am a little. Like with BMI they're like, "YOU'RE GOING TO DIIEEE! CALL YOUR DOCTOR NOOOOOOOOW!" I'm like, "Chill, I'm getting there. My doctor doesn't need to do s**t." I'm 70 pounds overweight, when I used to be 100 pounds overweight.

I just don't like the word "obese." It sounds so ugly. When I hear that word, I picture a 400 pound woman riding on a rascal around Wal Mart. So I don't think I'm obese but according to BMI, I am apparently. >.<

It makes me so sad to read all this.Forget BMI. Forget calories. Forget the scale. Forget dieting. And just eat whatever? No. Just eat like the Twentieth Century never happened. This was such a revelation to me and I feel so much better (and fitter) than I did in my 30's. It sounds like you are punishing yourself for the sin of weight gain when you are actually a victim of the food industry. So many of us are. It isn't a moral failing. The food industry did this to us and it's time to fight back and take back your health. I know you're on a college meal plan which makes it hard to control. But believe me, if you follow the simple rule of only eating food you could theoretically make yourself from ingredients found in a normal kitchen, the weight will melt off. It;s not about looking good for men. It's not about being "good" (I hate how weight and morals get tied up together). It's about going back to the kind of food our bodies evolved to digest instead of the processed junk we're surrounded by.

And also a victim of antidepressant weight gain, which didn't help. >.<

I'm doing what I can right now. I just hate how I'm constantly getting dirty looks from skinny b*****s whenever I have a f*****g hamburger. I don't eat them all the time but the ONE time I do, that makes me a fatass. I eat LESS than the skinny people do. I've skipped lunch almost every day since January for f**k's sake. >.<

Good for you, keep up the good work. A little over a year ago I weighed 190, now I weigh 155. I feel I look and feel my best at 145-160. Once I start to hit 170 I look fat, and start to feel sluggish.

Seems like you need to stop hanging around the people who give you looks. I just got home from eating two dozen wings and a big piece of fried mozzarella with beer and a coke, and the people I was with thought I was a hero. :) They are the guys I work with, they know I love to eat, especially wings.

Erisad, you are beating yourself up over this. You're not going to die if you don't lose weight. You're making it sound like something bad will happen if you don't lose weight, and you keep beating yourself up over this. :(

It's not the people I'm friends with that give me the looks. It's the random people in the area that stare. >.<

Well...I might have diabetes and heart failure in my future sooo technically I could die from it.

Joker - Um....you still need some carbs in your system. Also, I think the Atkin's diet is full of s**t. Didn't the man who created that diet die of a heart attack or something? Must have been all that bacon because that's better to eat than an apple because it has CARBS. Oh noooooes. :P
