I think sometimes we need to be able to stop and if it's hard for us to feel as if we are in another person's shoes, we need to ask ourselves what they might be thinking or feeling if we were in a similar situation even if we don't experience that type of empathy like others. I think that's something that will help me to grow and realize that the direct blunt approach isn't always the best one. Feeling empathy and bonding with someone on an emotional level is the difficult part for me, sometimes the physical connection might be there but it won't feel like a personal connection.

There are also times that I can be withdrawn for days and I think this confuses the typical person and that can lead to a misunderstanding in communication.

I am finding I am definitely capable of understanding what another person is going through now. It's much easier to get a feel for someone in normal face to face contact. Behind the computer screen or through text message will never be of help to you as you don't get to process their facial expressions and the basic body language. I am starting to see it more. I think I was just too selfish and depressed to care now that I have reflected on my inability to do it in the past. On the flip side, my Aspie diagnosis is probably correct in the fact that I sometimes take things too seriously when there is no need to.

With the communication and empathy... it takes work and understanding the joys and pains of just growing up and getting better at communicating and socializing with others. If you are around people long enough, you will start to understand how they communicate non-verbally as well.

That is true, I think it is about taking a light hearted approach and face to face communication will always be more direct or teach more than face to face interaction, however dating sites do have positives but things aren't personal on dating sites, there are a lot of people who do casually date or have impersonal relationships.
