If the advice of a homeless person was worth anything, he/she would not be homeless.

Also, Marknis probably receives free counseling if he is low income.

Another thing to keep in mind is that we aren’t listening in on those sessions, so we don’t know everything that is being said.

If Marknis doesn’t connect with this counselor or if he feels she’s not helping him after seeing her for awhile, he should see someone else (without allowing any time to elapse in between).

Seeing a female therapist could be very good because, as a woman, she knows something about how other women feel as far as dating goes (so many nuances!), and she has the expertise that many years of schooling brings.

He also gets to talk with a real woman! So what if someone has to pay her to talk with him? At least she's talking to him.

Hey babe, long time....wanna smell my new smelly boots?

No thanks...I like your new facial hair though. It kinda turns me on.

*Awkward silence*

When did you see my facial hair? I don’t recall posting any recent photo here.

If the therapist is choosing to self-disclose their experiences (as a woman) to help Marknis connect with other women it might have the opposite effect of what is intended.

While she may know what women like in general better than any man, yet she won’t be able to relate to the typical male dating issues.
At this stage I think he needs a male therapist hence he didn’t even start dating yet.

Yeah, that makes sense too. How about a husband and wife tag-team of psychologists?

They should make package deals for that; that's a good business idea Fnord!

My GP is in practice with her father. That would work well too! They're an incredible team, and they both have Psych degrees. More power to family practice!

I've seen a few father-daughter and father-son doctor teams.

Maybe, some day, I'll see a mother-son or a mother-daughter medical team.

My dentist is a Muslim mother-father-daughter practice. The daughter brings her children in sometimes, too.

I think it's brilliant -- such a good way to strengthen family bonds and share expenses.

Sorry for derailing, Marknis!

For the record, most Muslim societies are largely MONOGAMOUS, polygamous marriage is an unfair stereotype. /random

I've never had free counseling. It's always had to go through medicaid until recently and I have to pay with cash now because I am considered unqualified by the state to have medicaid cover for therapy.

I haven't been able to date because I am not an aggressive iron pumping and tattooed alpha male which is what the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan region expects you to be like if you are a male. People in this culture also date and marry early, often due to pre-marital sex despite religious objectifications and not using protection or the men always demand the women to use pills while refusing to use condoms and the women will often willingly forsake the pill.
