Do you know the penny jar joke? If a newly married couple puts a penny in a jar each time they engage in relations in the first year of marriage, and then pull out a penny each time after that, they will never empty the jar.

It is a very important part of a serious relationship, but not the only part. As two people get comfortable in a relationship, they rely on it less. That is perfectly normal.

OK, I think the penny jar would be emptied within a few years by most couples, but, heck, its a joke.

My concern about abstaining is mostly for very young women who have not finished growing up. I'm sorry, they aren't ready, they only think they are. I have seen the fall out over the years, the regrets some women face, and I can say with certainty that most of the time getting active early is a mistake. There are exceptions, but the generalization is, these girls get hurt, and they carry that damage for many years into new relationships that fail because of it. They believe in a false bill of goods, and its really difficult when they figure it out. And then there are those for whom the course of life will be changed forever. No college. No self-esteem building career. Children should not have children, and sex is for those willing to accept they might bear children. As a single women in my twenties I understood that risk, and had fully thought it out. The average teen hasn't got a clue. And, definitely, the burden falls far heavier on the female. The image, the associations - its all different for very young women. I hold nothing against them, not at this point in my life, but there are good reasons that society has crafted images to discourage it. Those girls get hurt. Let I said, I've seen too much of the fall out over the years. One will meet many, many women who will reach an age where they wish they had waited longer. I have never met a woman who wishes she had started earlier. The path of the least regrets is to wait until you are an adult mentally, emotionally, and financially.

A true romantic relationship involves a meeting of minds. That isn't likely to happen with someone driven mostly by hormones. What the average girl and what the average boy want from a relationship in the teen years is not the same thing, and they don't bring enough self-understanding to really have a connection of minds (I do know people who fell in love as teens and it was life time real - I love those stories, but they aren't the norm). Lust is a very powerful feeling, but it isn't love, as much as people like to mistake it for such. Love is richer, more secure, more earth bound, and less selfish. If a relationship leaves you feeling needy, it isn't love. Love leaves one feeling like, wow, things are finally OK. That connection transcends the physical. Its emotional.

Excellent comments above -- I actually agree with a lot of what you say. Except the part about the penny jar -- I've been married for 11 years, and I would have been well into negative penny bushels by this point :) So you can see why my POV is tilted in a certain direction. Totally with you on lust as well. Lust is short term, Love is long term. I married for love, but there was also a strong lust component. When you get both, you get the perfect fit.

Untill I was 26 I had alternating periods of being alone and having girlfriends who I didn't relate to, didnt click with, and always felt arkward and boring and nervous with. I never had sex with any of them as I never felt comfortable. I always thought that if i ever had sex it would be a one night stand or a casual relationship and either way I would have to put on an exhuasting fake persona and do all the horrible things that the PUA/macho dating books tell you to do like purposefully ignore them and turn your back to them, ignore what they say and give them sarcastic putdowns. I imagined doing that would keep a relationship up for as long as I could keep the mask up. I met my girlfriend who is a beautiful aspie lady this year. She is my only sexual partner and i am really glad that i lasted to find someone i love. I feel comfortable with her and always feel I can chat to her and be myself. I do believe there might be a supernatural/destiny aspect in it for a man who makes a real decision to not be horrible and to be himself and a good partner for someone. I think if you make a real decision to be a hapier, more social person, to make friends and spend time around the people you like and share interest with, and get yourself out to meetups on your interests, then you can make it happen.

:D :D :D :D :D

PS - that crap you read? It's crap. Women are devastated when a man acts like that. So, so glad you didn't.

I don't agree fully DW, I think there are some NT women who expect PUA behaviour from a man, but those women have men meant for them, men with very social and subtle nuanced brains who can make them happy. Thank you for the encouragement though.

I don't doubt the truthfulness of your statement for one minute Tom, but, surely, women who allow men to treat them in this way are either inexperienced, a poor judge of character or have a screw loose...

I must admit, I sounded a lot like these guys, especially from about 15-23. I was the most unpopular kid in a graduating class of about 1,000. I didn't stand a chance with any girl. On top of it, I wasn't the best looking guy...looked about the age of 12 when I graduated.. And to top it off, I was immature and wanted the sexy, snobby girls. Of course, they made fun of me and made my life hell for even having a crush on them. On top of it, even the regular girls laughed at me and made fun of me. It did damage to my self-esteem, and I thought I wasn't a complete person for not being able to attract any woman, but especially the "really hot" ones.

As I grew up, I realized that these "really hot" girls aren't meant for us. We as guys hate it when women go after the dumb muscle-bound jock, but complain when we want the party girl and she treats us like sh*t or ignores us. Really hot party girls date jocks or alpha male type of guys. They're each other's counterpart.

I have no bitterness, resentment, or regret over the fact that I wasn't dating in high school. I get the feeling most guys want sex because to them it's an accomplishment and perceived to be not easy to get into a woman's pants.

I also have no bitterness, resentment, that even the improved me is just "average to above average looking" and not a model that gets all the ladies or attracts the really hot party girls. I'm just glad I'm decent looking and in shape and can attract decent looking women who are in shape. Those are the ones you want anyway. Not only do they look good, but they don't have an ego.

True that. I feel like it's not worth getting all hung up on the really "hot" women. If you like one and they're worth it, they'll probably figure it out eventually. The bad boys are more of a thrill thing for girls I think. If they want a more long-term thing, the sort of average but attractive guy is the type they'll go for.

Somewhat of a digression: does anyone feel like either they constantly drive the woman away or the woman drive them away (rather than achieving something long-term). I've noticed this happens to me an awful lot and was wondering if I was the only one.

i think men should reliaze that women have to play games and put men off to keep themselves safe while they decide who date cause they are vunerable, and women should realize that virgin aspie men feel embaresed and childish and being derisive and patronising to them will only push them more into mysoginy and bitterness.

I don't know why they do that. Girls like screwing with all of us. I hate when girls hit on me when they have a boyfriend. I hate it because that's false advertising. If they have a boyfriend then fine but leave me alone then!! !! Don't lead me on to believe I have a chance. It's mean. Especially a guy like me who's had nothing! That's what I feel like saying anyways.

I guess my views on women and relationships have changed after my first relationship. Everything was lined up...we lived in the same town, she was my type physically, she didn't care about the Aspergers or that I didn't drive...we had that sarcastic back and forth online and on the phone and our initial dates...but it was all temporary. A couple months later, it was clear we were two different people that had nothing in common. She made it difficult to be around her and got mad at me over the stupidest things. I also ended up getting attached by that point, and when she started to be cold and distant, I got lonely and confused and almost ended up killing myself.

After that, I realized that I'd rather be single and wait than just "date the wrong women until I meet the right one." Months later, I still feel bad that the relationship (and subsequent friendship) went in the direction that it did. For me, the idea that at one point we were getting along great and just a couple months later she was at my throat, even though it happens a lot, I don't like it and don't wish to partake in it anymore.

I thought false advertising was when you stuff your bra ;-)

Actually though, about the flirting, I think some people just like to flirt. There are some people who just flirt with every adult of the opposite sex. It doesn't mean anything, it's meant as harmless. I've had men flirt with me, even now that I'm married and I'll play flirt back. I take it as a compliment. When somebody flirts with you even though she has a bf it means that she thinks your cute or interesting or something and it's a compliment.

Well that doesn't do me any good. I don't want a girl to get me excited for nothing if I don't have a chance with her. I would very much prefer for girls to leave me alone if they are taken already. They got their boyfriend for that.

It's a compliment! She's into you. If I were you, I'd take it as a compliment and let it boost my self confidence.

I have seen alot of posts here saying how guys like to go for the "hot' or pretty or popular girl. I can only speak for myself. But I have always been attracted to women that I have gotten to know a little bit first. It take me awhile to warm up to them. We develop a friendship and then I get deeper feelings for them. These women I think are far from popular or what most of society would consider "hot". I'm not saying I am not attracted to hot women. But I know my limits and chances with them are pretty low. Plus I can't just go up to someone and ask them out. I need to get to know them a little to see if we have anything in common first.

But I have felt in the past that these women have messed with me. That is why I started this post. But I am trying to work on my thinking and point of view about it.

Bam crack and HOME RUN.

Read this over and over again Ken M. To me it looks like you're using the annoyance about the whole "lets just be friends" statement as excuse for your mysogenic attitude.
