I've just realised something. Are we talking about asking complete strangers on dates?

Most of the people I know have got together with people they knew through friends and knew each other before starting to date.

And how did they start to date? Someone did the leap of faith at some point of their friendship.

In our society, women have become the peacocks just because it's frowned upon for a woman to ask a man out.

Yeah, that is quite a shift from the rest of the animal kingdom, isn't it?

The difference seems to be that the peahen takes whoever puts on the best display, and the peacock just follows through. Whereas the human female is more apt to say "You CREEP! THIS display wasn't for you!"

wrong.
Men are still the displayers: big cars, motorcyles, musical talents, whatever.

That's not true.

I've seen a lot of times two or more girls competing to get a guy's attention/affection/love. When I say "compete" I mean not only verbally but even physically. Punching each other and pulling each other's hair
Which I think is ridiculous. I mean, you want to eliminate that other girl? Just wait for her at night when people aren't around and kill her with a knife
lol, I'm joking obviously
But really, I think that competing over a person is somewhat stupid.

I think women choose and men do compete for the affections of a potential mate/dating partner. This can be seen subtlety or overtly in the way men occasionally try to impress and "outdo" any other male competition in the room. From my own female heterosexual standpoint...this is somewhat expected and stereotypical behavior. Of course it is more obvious in large groups such as classrooms, seminars, etc. The irony is there may be 20 women but a whopping 10 men may only focus or hone in on 1-2 girls. That scene from Beautiful Mind just came into my mind when he talks about their decreased odds of scoring if they all go after the blonde in the bar. Makes logical sense to me.
