I've been a high-tech hermit since finishing my Master's in the 90s. Though I've poked my head out into the real world a few times, and even had a few relationships, I've been living alone and enjoying it. I occasionally fantasize about having some friends or a girlfriend, but I also fantasize about proving the Riemann hypothesis or Goldbach conjecture, so the most that can be said is I have a rich fantasy life.

I earn my keep by doing technical translation. The translation profession is 80%+ freelance in the U.S., so working from home is the norm. Client contact is by email for the most part, so my limited social skills are not an issue.

Note: a knock on my door or the ring of my phone are among the many sounds that freak out my sensitive senses. Even a knock on my neighbor's door or a ring of their phone (both of which I hear quite clearly due to "Aspie ears") can startle me. I prefer the quietude and solitude of "hermitude".

Ahhhh, how I wish that I could find some way of never having to work with other people...

I don't think I could be a hermit. It gets old really quick.
