There was this girl in a class that I had to install printers on and she seemed very interested in what I was doing, and she remarked on how she'd never seen anyone do all of that computer stuff so fast and she was already helping me out by telling me what was wrong with the other stuff. Then I told her that she had really pretty eyes and I just thought she should know that, then and her and the guy next to her looked at me like I was really strange. And then she replied "But my eyes are just brown", and then I said that they're really shiny and stuff. And she didn't really say anything to me after that but she would still look at what I was doing on the computer.

wtf

Maybe she was embareassed or has low self-esteem. Maybe she felt a bit on the spot cus someone else was in the room, who knows. Whatever her reason, don't take it personally, if she can't accept a compliment and be polite enough to say thankyou, it's her problem not yours.

Ignore the WP-Police on here im sure some of them have been in similar situations before and would be making the same complaint if it happened to them.

OK I'll make sure to diss something about your body that would make you feel better I'm sure.

And if you have such a low self-opinion of your looks that the mere mention of you possibly being attractive sends you into a panic, you might seek out some therapy for that issue. GOD men can't win today no matter what. Thank God I have a good girlfriend who just blushes when I complement her beauty and I can see I made her day with the complement (which I truly believe)

so you think you have it all figured out when it comes to us girls, right? maybe it's because you men would want for every woman to look like Playboy playmates to satisfy your needs, right? sorry dude, doesn't work that way. i'd rather be valued for my personality than being criticized from people who are blinded by the media with their perception of beauty.

Wow! Judgmental much? My gf is anything but Playboy material - short, no butt, chicken legs, maybe she does have lots of stuff up top (which I never noticed when we first dated as she tends to wear non-fashion baggy stuff a lot), but she has the brightest smile and the best personality and is the best helpmate a person could ever have. That's what makes her beautiful, not just the looks (which are what you'd call cutish).

BTW I personally don't go for women who look too good as they tend to be conceited or too insecure. So before you throw me in with those legion misogynists who want a sex doll and not a viable partner in love, please get your facts straight - I have three excellent sisters who are great role models and I see them as people first.. my equals not someone to dominate or objectify. Maybe you are looking to pick a fight but do it with someone who really has it coming to them which is not me.

Ah, the "helpmate" term rears its ugly little head.

So, what is your definition of helpmate?

Think about it.

Am I the only one who sees the logic in being happy that people find an attribute that you can't control attractive?
If you can't improve it you should be damn happy that someone finds it nice, not just jump behind the sandbags for cover. Not even I do that. A "thank you" never hurt anyone.

The guy next to her must have been her bf or she might have been self-conscious. You did nothing weird or wrong. You're allowed to give compliments out freely & other people can take them however they want.

If she didn't want your compliment, no big deal. It was hers to reject. Just don't take it to heart & never stop giving your honest opinion.

It wasn't her boyfriend, it was some fat kid that had no business at all in the conversation. I think he was just surprised that I broke some kind of stupid social rule.

See why it's crazy to ask anything remotely personal on this site? Within 10 posts people will be at each other's throats ... not to mention yours.

I think I'll go watch a webcam of grass growing instead.

And how was I to know that. I've said it before and it wasn't such a bad reaction, I thought it was a harmless comment. God, it's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too easy to do something wrong. Why the hell do I bother any more. F**k it.

Not to be rude, but, do you know anything at all? : /
Like some others say, you are talking about technical stuff and all of a sudden you fire off a "I like your eyes, they are purdy"
i mean, lol? T_T

Your mistake was that you completely jumped off-topic, and that got her off guard, if you didn't know that it woulddo that, then i recommend you to ask some NT friends maybe, or just SOMETHING, so you get a better grasp.

And in the end, yeah, it can at times be such a pain in the ass to give a compliment, so at times, just keeping ones mouth shut is a good idea, which is what i do, to avoid all the trouble, and once you do try to be nice, all hell breaks loose -.-

Yeah uh... try not to hate but if I had been that girl and if you randomly told me (in the middle of fixing a printer of a places) that my eyes were pretty, I would've been creeped out by you too.

Not normal for a guy to tell some girl he doesnt know too well about how pretty her eyes are in a situation like that. A social event or party or whatnot wouldve been better...maybe.

Then again I get creeped out all the time by a male friend of mine who constantly complements my hair and freckles.

shudders

then what gives you the right to tell me that i have low self-esteem and all that s#!t you just made up? you don't know me.
so don't even try to make false statements about someone you don't even know otherwise it'll get back to you.

Ehh... he didn't? He pointed out that if a guy likes you appearance he basicly can't tell you 'cause you'll get mad at him. (From how I read your posts.)
And if I for example finds your eyes attractive and say they are pretty, they are pretty, no matter what you thinks about them.
You strike me as a person who's not content with his/her appearance, most likley because of outer influence. Which is sad if true. :?
All people are not the same, especialy not here. :D

the fact is that guys who give compliments to girls would say that just to get a piece of a$$. that's how it works, so they don't mean what they say. compliments are a way for them to use them towards women to their own advantage.

Isn't there a difference between someone who's hitting on you and someone who's being nice?
