My views on hotness
I think some of this is age-related. When we're in high school and college, we're pretty much spoiled (either gender) by being surrounded by members of the opposite sex at their reproductive and physical peaks. We really don't have anything to compare it to, other than older people, who we can't imagine we might become someday
Older folks, stuck at work all day around the same people day in and day out, tend to suddenly appreciate beauty and youth a lot more than they did before.
When I was in high school and college, I only thought a small % of women were truly hot, though other girls could be attractive. Now I find a wide variety of women to be hot, each in their own way.

Of course I agree. And a quick glance over at my age will tell you why. I suppose that's why I always get a little perplexed when 20 year olds post pictures of themself here saying, more or less, "here's a picture of me and as you can see there's not much but I suppose some people must think it's ok- I can't see it". So I click on the picture and think "false modesty- eyeroll" then remember that I'm on an Aspie forum where false modesty doesn't have much of a foothold and the people posting the pictures honestly can't see their own beauty. And sadly enough possibly others of the same age can't either. But I've lost that youthful perspective and honestly can't imagine what the 20 year olds are complaining about because I can't see a problem unless there is some sort of actual disfigurement.

Ah, well, good news and bad news on that part --
The good news -- almost no hot girls that are taken right now (assuming you are college age or younger) are permanently taken.
The good/bad news -- Girls/women who are secure in themselves, emotionally healthy/ready, and even moderate-looking pretty much have a boyfriend all of the time. If you see someone you like, odds are that they are already spoken for...
...but not THAT spoken for. Most women keep a couple of candidates, like good or attractive guy friends or acquaintances, in "reserve" for when their current relationship goes bad or ends. Once this happens, they pick a guy from the list. You WANT to be on that list with the right girls who are right for you.
You don't want to write off girls because they have a boyfriend -- that's the wrong reason. If you do this, you will almost always be either giving up your best prospects, or scraping the bottom of the barrel. After all, if they don't have a boyfriend, why not? Are the reasons ones that might prevent you from having a relationship with that person as well? Also, when you write off a woman because of her BF, you pretty much show you her cards. Women want to know that you might like them as a person, regardless of current relationship status.
This being said, please don't ever let anyone use you or string you along. That's a pretty good reason to write them off.
