It's from my viewpoint after trying online dating for many years that the image of online dating makes it looks deceptively easy. The reality is that it probably isn't that much different from real life dating... which kind of is the problem. If you suck at dating in RL, good chances you'll suck at it online too. Those who are successful at online dating also tend to be good at in real life.

Don't fool yourself for a moment if you think it actually helps the socially inept get dates.

It does actually help. I had quite a few dates, and two long term relationships, thanks to online dating. I would never have had any of that trying to meet girls strictly in person. Sure most of the dates didn't work out, and the first major relationship ended up being horrible. But my second major relationship is with my fiancee, and is beyond fantastic.

I've gotten lucky a couple times from dating sites, but it's really hit and miss. Don't ever pay for a subscription though, there's plenty of free sites. If your good looking, the best thing to do is keep your description down to a minimum, and opposite if your more plain. Then, message EVERYONE. Once you have caught someone's interest, hide your profile from public viewing so that you don't grab someone's interest while your already seeing someone.

Another way is to keep the shop open and date more than one at a time. I've never tried that, as I used to feel it was wrong, but then I began to wonder.......isn't it slightly unhealthy to cone down on the first one who seems interested? As long as things don't get sexual (including heavy petting) then meeting a number of people seems like healthy competition. After all, you're only socialising with them at first, and even the Old Testament doesn't frown on platonic tarting. In real life you can't expect people to "forsake all other" on the strength of one date, though if the chemistry is right then that could happen.. Maybe it would be better if these websites allowed people to choose whether they wanted series or parallel dating. That way you wouldn't upset the series daters - much as I disapprove of committing too early, the fact is that a lot of people work that way and it wouldn't be right to be "parallel" with them. But so much depends on luck.....you could lose the right one by insisting on playing the field.

I have NO idea whether online dating is a crock! I would think it has it's pros and cons just like dating IRL does. How anyone can determine someone else's success or failure with Internet Dating based on their own experience is beyond me. I have thought about trying it but I never follow through. I find dating awkward and uncomfortable anyway. And I am able to communicate so much easier on the Internet than I have ever been able to do in real life. So for me personally, I would probably have a better chance of connecting with someone online than here locally where I live. Some of you probably already know, I have been communicating with someone for many months now thru the Internet. To me, Internet friends are as real and important as offline friends. I know that not everyone agrees with this, and that's their choice. Also, someone's gender does NOT determine whether they are trustworthy or not. There are just as many men out there looking for an opportunity to take advantage of someone as there are women.

I know more people in real life who had success with it than not. Tried it myself for a bit, the other person and I, we thought we clicked a bit, but then we just drifted apart and stopped talking. It all depends on the individual in all honesty. for some people it can do wonder, and for others they just dont.
