@MrDiamondMind, I don't suppose there would be any way for me to see if you can find this person and confirm her sincerity?

I'm afraid not. I've been a dweller of the US of A for ~18 years now.

SCAM!

You may not even be talking to a WOMAN!

After you wire the $200 for a "visa" they will ask for $500 for travel expenses, and then for $2000 for the ticket, etc... They will milk you until you figure it out and stop paying, then they will disappear.

Pretty much. My NT cousin was in a similar boat.

Well if you're leaning toward giving it to her, what about offering to buy the ticket rather than wiring her the money? That way if it turns out that she's not being truthful at least you have some recourse and aren't just out the money. Maybe I missed something tough because $265 seems very low for a ticket from Russia....I'd be hesitant about wiring money to her.

The $265 is for the Visa, not the ticket. I'd imagine the ticket being a bit pricey given that she's half the world away.

That aside, I should know in a few days whether I was given the run around or not. It was like a week ago, we were interested in potentially meeting, then she gets it in her to go ahead and get a passport and registered for the Visa. I've only been touch with her for about 3 weeks now (though she did contact me last month, but supposedly couldnt reconnect due to a death in her family for several weeks . . . and limitations on internet access <shrug>).

Well, it seems I was nearly had . . . :wall: . On a whim, I decided to look up this person's name on google. Imagine my surprise when it came up on the name on a scam alert. <Shakes head> Well, that was interesting . . .

Dating Scammers

Nearly had me there . . . oddly, she sent of picture of her with a passport, and for some reason it didn't feel right. Gotta love online resources. Dilbert, remind me never to doubt you again on this kind of issue . . . . Everyone else, thanks and learn from the mistake I nearly made. The site pretty much showed me 5 attempts using the same first name from the same place to get money. But, like I said, her response will pretty much determine end result, but I'm leaning towards the "Scam" now. I feel like an idiot now . . . whether it might have been something real or not.

And I'm sorry it seems to be a scam, rather than a fun and interesting adventure.

PlatedDrake, I am in agreement with those who have said it is a scam. Years ago I was approached online by a person claiming to be a girl with a similar story. Thankfully I had the good sense to not send the person any money and stop all contact with them.

Anyone you meet online who says they're in another country and decide they want to visit you after only talking a short time, and then asks for money to do so 99.999999% of the time it is a scam without a doubt.

well tell her you want to come over to Russia and sweep her off her feet and bring her back to the US but you need some financial help with obtaining a passport and visa due to your being scammed by a Nigerian fortune email scam and cant afford a cup of coffee let alone her attempt to fleece you out of hard earned money. I believe the internet is a good tool to do many things in this world and to make wonderful connections with other people that are true and sincere-but we have the flip side where evil and nasty humans prey on other humans and have no conscience about doing so and hurting otherwise innocent and trusting people. Its harder for aspies to detect when people might be using feelings and emotions to hurt or scam or rip off people-I am bad at reading peoples intentions when it comes to emotions and feelings-I have been hurt many times by NT style drama where I couldnt read true intention.

That's why I find the phrase, "When all else fails, or you're in doubt, google it." Chances are, if you get a hit, it means you're being setup. Just glad I'm not one of those who posted out of getting scammed. As for intention, well, sometimes I think non-autists muddy that up a bit regardless (hormones can be a b17ch).

Ha, it so happens that I can't stand Russian females. (I'm a Russian male.)

And being a Russian-American growing up in a far from Russian-American household, I can say that Russian-American girls my age are NOT a dime a dozen.

An old friend of my father's and I have had conversations with this (as he hasn't dated in years), and HE finds Russian (and other Slavic) women attractive.

There's no question of attractiveness, but I have to wonder whether or not this image was taken from some random model. If she's Russian, and looks like this, no wonder James Bond had fun during the cold nights.

Well, it's been a while since I decided to look at this like it were a scam, haven't sent any money, but this person keeps talking to me and has supposedly found a way to come up with the money herself. Guessing the plane ticket question will be the next one (eventually), so for now I'm just futzing around with this person. Hate it when life throws a curve ball.

If there's mail-order brides, why can't there be mail-order husbands? Chicks need love too! D:

If she comes up with the money to visit you on her own then you might as well give it a go, just don't send her any money. Even then the likelihood is still high that she just wants to be an American citizen, so she'll get herself over to the US to marry you just so she can live here.
