Cherish? No. I hold no ill will towards her, and would be curious to know how she is, since it's been 20 years since I've seen her. But other than being my first girlfriend, I have no feelings toward her.

I'll tell you when I've had a 'first love'.

Yes. She was my girlfriend in college, so I must have been 18 or 19. Wow, that was half my life ago. Honestly, I don't know if "girlfriend" is really the right word. I was obsessed with her and so was she (with her -- not me). We were together all the time, but I'm not sure she ever noticed me. Maybe that was what was so addictive about it. It was unrequited in a big way. Even though I've been married and had other romantic relationships since, she's still the one who really haunts me.

Erm.... it was a month, we broke up, she was with a friend a week later, they married and maybe a year and a half later and had a hard divorce - ie. she ran off on him without even a 'dear John' letter. Turns out it was an acquaintance of his who he was providing a job for and even cooked dinner for the guy and talked about his marital problems with him after this had happened (obviously before he knew the story). She's supposedly getting married to someone we used to know - we wish him luck.

Yeah, unfortunately. I do have feelings for her.

On a brighter note, I'm currently seeing someone new. We'll just have to see how that goes.

That's usually the case but that new person would have to really rock your world to make you forget.

Yes. I met my first and only love just over 2 years ago and we began dating instantly. We were together for 18 months before she dumped me on 30th December last year at the start of what was supposed to be the begining of our festive period together, I'd been looking forward to it for a month. I never really got a clear reason why but I cannot hate her and still love and miss her.

There's no real reason to hate someone because they didn't see a future with you. It's the men and women that cut you down while breaking up with you that ought to be hated. There's no reason why anyone, male or female should insult or hate you because you weren't the person they want to spend the rest of their life with. If they're frustrated because they can't find what they're looking for, they have no right to insult or belittle you for not being that person.

Absolutely. My first love was Kaley Stenerson and I will never forget her.
