Do people even read the stickied threads?

I sure don't.

I do.... that's the first thing I notice on a forum.

I do sometimes. If it's about attention from a moderator, I read it because I see it's very important I must read.

I hope I didn't break any rules here. I don't think I have done any personal attacks. If I am one of those people, mods send me a PM so I know.

I don't even post in this section much because I am too afraid what I might say be offensive or be seen as sexist. Seeing threads like this, I have no idea who they are directed at and I have no idea if I was one of those people.

If you're not guilty, then consider it a reminder. If you are, then take it as a warning. Simple, no?

Thanks for posting this. Although I do think this thread should be stickied like most other threads about rules.

Hopefully, I can resticky this soon, but for the time being, I will just have to bump it.

I don't think sticking threads about the rules helps much if they aren't being enforced. This section has been having lots of problems for quite a while. Mods should of stepped in long before this point. I am NOT trying to blame the mods here or anything because they are very few of em & they seem to be doing the best they can. I don't really have an easy simple solution here but we could all try to keep our cool & avoid/ignore heated arguments & let the mods know when we see something getting way out of hand.

are you reporting the situation to mods when the rules are being violated? even if things are just slightly out of hand, are you bringing it to their attention? because they won't follow through every thread, and sometimes nobody reports that anything is going on and the mods have no idea about the situation.

That is very much the situation. Personally I probably read less than 1% of posts on the site. Moderators rely heavily on members reporting problem posts to us. Either in the moderator attention thread, or privately by PM.

Sometimes a "bad" thread can rumble on for days, weeks or even months without moderators knowing it has any problems. I sometimes see people complaining within particular threads about the lack of moderator attention in taking action about the thread, but those same people seldom think to report the thread to us! If we don't know there is a problem we can't take any action.

I don't want to snitch but I PMed Quatermass about it shortly before this post was made. I wasn't bringing things to their attention before because I didn't know who the mods were. I was hoping the situation would of cooled down but after members started calling each other names it was out of hand

You're not being a snitch by reporting, Nick. I don't like bothering the mods or complaining either and I think well before doing it. But I've learned form experience that ignoring a situation won't make it go away - it just escalates. And hyper is right, there are very few (active) mods and they also have a life, they can't keep an eye on everything and they do appreciate when other members help them keep the peace.

i try to report even when i am unsure. sometimes i have been wrong, but then the mods can let me know when i am misreading things or overreacting. we aren't expected to be perfect or anything, but i think they appreciate our efforts anyways.
