I get frightened of the notion of ending up old and alone..but that could easily happen regardless of whether or not I ever marry...

Right now I could not even imagine having a kid. I am dirt poor, autistic, in bad health, and old. But if I had a good paying job with stability I would try to put out a rug rat ot two to help keep that gene for Aspergers flowing in hopes of creating some uber autistic capable of great things. But right now its out of the question.

I'm NOT trying to sound sexist or anything here but I think some(NOT all) women want kids because they are trying to trap a guy or they are trying to find a rich guy that can pay em a lot of child-support. A lot of the single women I've met who really want kids have a lot of problems. They are on welfare or they have lots of major emotional issues like codependency. I really doubt they have what it takes to be great parents & they think I'm some kind of horrible monster because I don't plan on having kids. I'm NOT saying I will never have em but I have enough problems in my life rite now & I think it would be extremely unfair for me to plan on having kids. If I was with someone & something happened; I wouldn't bail or anything but the idea of planning a kid out seems very wrong. It sux that women think I'm a bad person because of that.

Where do you live OP? The majority of people in my area are having kids before they get married. They may get married after they have a kid but a lot of those marriages don't last.

I do want kids someday, but I want to get some things out of the way first.

I've thought about having a child one day, perhaps in 10 years or so when my life is hopefully stable economically and I've achieved most of my goals in university and have a stable career going. And assuming my girlfriend and I are still together, which I think we will. We have talked a bit about getting married at some point. Neither of us thinks too much of the institution but we both feel 'boyfriend and girlfriend' are weak terms to describe our long-term relationship. Once we have left Quebec and put some roots down then we'll consider it I suppose. I think I would be a good father. If I had a son, I'd be excited to be able to play lego with him, and gladly give him my huge childhood collection. I still love lego, even if I'm too old to do anything with it, so its the perfect excuse  Then again, girls like lego too, so we'll see... :D
