^^ Heh good idea but not an easy one. Orphan care organisations usually wouldn't let single people (and especially single men) to adopt one of their orphans , they would always prefer any couple over any man.
And I can't adopt, because , legally, I am "Muslim" . But if I ever get desperate for parenthood , then I would legally "convert" to "Christian" .

Well, I don't know what adoption is like in Lebanon, but I'm sorry if they won't let you adopt. Speaking as an adoptive parent, it is a beautiful thing, and the best decision I ever made. Maybe you should think about relocating to the States?

It's a complicated system here, laws here are secular (such as Firm law, labor law...etc) but everything related to "Civil Status" cases such as marriage, divorce and inheritance fall under some religion's laws, and this depends on the religion you "belong to" , I am atheist but I am registered as Muslim Shiite citizen since I am "born like this", there's no special Civil Status laws for atheists. There's no homogeneous marriage/divorce/inheritance law for all citizens here.

If you're too lazy to read the page , I quoted those for you:
Quote:
PLEASE NOTE: Islamic Shari'a law does not recognize the practice of adoption and as such may not create under U.S. Law the requisite legal adoptive relationship and status required by the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act for immigration purposes.
In Lebanon, only Christian institutions recognize adoptions as a legal convention and define the conditions, rights and duties thereof. Christian orphanages in Lebanon may have children available for adoption.
The following conditions for adoption are offered only as a summary. Lebanese adoptions are complex, and it is highly recommended that couples considering adoption from Lebanon seek legal counsel in Lebanon before beginning this process.

Quote:
LEBANON ADOPTION AUTHORITY: Since adoption is overseen by religious institutions in Lebanon, the adoptions must be supervised by authorized church authorities and must be approved by these authorities as well as the Christian Court. This also applies to children who are adopted through non-Christian denominations.
^See what I was talking about?
Anyways, it's still too early and I am not yet ready for a such huge step .... maybe I would seriously start considering it in my late 30s.

Still, even in the US, agencies would rather let couples adopt, and, failing that, single mothers. Because men who can't get a woman and yet want kids must be some kind of pedophile

@Toad, honest hon - that's not true. If a person can pass the background check, can afford the fees, and is chosen by an agency and/or birth mother, he/she can adopt in the U.S. In most states (if not all), it's illegal to discriminate against a prospective adoptive parent based on gender. I know single adoptive dads, both straight and gay. Trust me, there are lots of kids who need good homes.

Toad is right, I read some article once saying that single men are the least favorable parent for adoption but things are getting bettter : http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/200 ... ster_n.htm ........ in the US at least.

This thread is only for those who can't get a partner.
Have you ever worried that the lack of love life would forbid you to experience parenthood in your whole lifetime?
I had that thought when I was taking care of my very little cousine for a little time.

Biggest fear I have. My paternal grandmother had a biological need for grandchildren. So when I showed up in late '90, my grandmother was ecstatic.
