I disagree that people learn how to date at 15. At that age people only learn how to meet and interact with the opposite sex.

And that is very important. Aspie guys usually start doing this (learn how to interact with the opposite sex) at an older age....that's the basis for how to date, and that's why the socially normal guys beat us to it when they get older.

More to the point is that no one learns how to date at 15, they learn how to get laid at 15. Anyone with the money for an escort can get laid, very few ever master the fine art of relationships.

I want to be able to go places and do things that NTs do BUT on my own terms, and with a date at my side.

Does anyone have any interest in something like this? Has anyone ever managed to have this type of experience? Any comments?

What kind of "NT" things would you like to do? What would you like to learn? How long will it take to learn whatever it is you're hoping to before you're comfortable to apply what you've learned in other social settings?

What are your own terms?

I have two choices now. I can do nothing and continue feeling miserable for the rest of my life, or I can hire someone to tutor me socially.

Since you're in the Philadelphia area, I would look into working with Jerry Kelly through his practice, Adapting Asperger's. Pretty sure his website is adaptingaspergers.com and that he's based in Drexel Hill. He's a licensed therapist who works as an Asperger's life coach, helping people identify goals and providing functional coaching towards meeting those goals. I've never been a client of his myself, but I heard him speak somewhere and thought he had some good things to say. I've also heard positive things from one of his clients.

I've heard there is also a social skills group for ASD adults run by an occupational therapist that meets in Newtown Square. I'm pretty sure it's called Collage. I've never been to it myself, but I remember someone telling me about it because usually social skills training groups are offered for young kids and it was the only one in the Philly area I'd ever heard of that was for adults. If you are still a member of the Philly GRASP listserv, Paladin, I'm sure that some of the folks on there could provide some more info about it. That was were I heard about myself, actually.

Hope that helps a little!
