Pretty lame. Shirtless illiterate half-wits who forsake punctuation for the use of LOL's,
and "devoted Christians" and "deer hunters" messaging an atheist ethical vegan to say they "luv yer profile".
Not gonna mention the message I got from someone whom I had literally never spoken to once in my life saying, in it's totality:
"s**t ur hot wanna f**k?!"
Yeah, no. Don't message someone who mentions hierarchical ethics or socio-economics with the lone word "sup". It just ain't gonna work out. If I want to go slumming, I'll go hang out at Wal-Mart in a tube top with a huge fake dragon tattoo covering one calf and see what pops up.
Fresh and gullible, lovely. Is it that hard to believe that some women my age actually mean what they put in their profile? I'm looking for men ages 18-22, maybe 23 if we're pushing it just a little.
While yes I'm young, I don't want older men using that as an excuse to hit on me. That's just disgusting. I don't like it when older women take advantage of young men, why would I like it when an older man takes advantage of me? Luckily I shouldn't be getting any messages like that anymore, because I've set my preferences to allowing men that are 18-24 to message me.
On the subject of women having sexy names, I agree with that statement. I put that I'm straight since I'm looking for a man, but I'm really bi-curious. In any case, I don't want any "fake" women messaging me either.
Being on the site makes me seem desperate, fine, but I'm not going to take just anyone. I'm not THAT desperate.
There's a man on there who's outside the range of men I even want to talk to but because he obviously read my profile, and isn't hitting on me like a ret*d, I'm still talking to him. I don't judge by age. Since it's a dating site, however, I'm more cautious about the people I choose to talk to.
And as a rule, if any of you want to add my OkCupid, you can. I just won't allow anyone after a specific age range onto my list (because obviously there's here if you really want to talk).
Genuine men are a bit difficult to find, and sadly the only genuine man who's even read my profile is too old for me to consider.
This is why I avoid dating sites; because people on there are too old for me and they seem targeted towards a more "mature" audience.
Thing is, there are TONS of sleazy guys on OKC, many of whom are looking for a one night stand. If that's not what you're looking for and you're a woman, you're going to have to weed through lots of those. I don't even stay on the site very long because I get freaks IMing me "hey baby wanna hook up?" Like really, dude, I'm not going to jump in my car and go meet you NOW, without ever having talked to you. Also, I'm in my 40s and I even get 24 year old guys messaging me sometimes, so the age thing is kinda loose (and I have an age range of 30-55 on my profile). If you weed through the freaks you might find someone nice.

The sleaze makes it worse for genuine men as well... I for one do what I can to write a thoughtful message based on what was said in the profile, and even though I'm not even on there for sex, I must have been grouped into the sleaze for some reason... because very few ever respond to me (which is hurtful), and even fewer respond to a followup or try to strike conversation (which is also hurtful)
That is absolutely true...the two guys from OKC that I've continued to see have both said it's hard to meet women on there because of all the sleazy guys and that they're glad I weeded through the freaks. If someone seems genuine (like if they write a thoughtful message and they talk about things other than hooking up) and I like them, I try to get a real email address so I don't have to spend a lot of time on the site, to avoid getting "pounced on" by the sleaze. The fact that there are more men than women (as is the case with most dating sites) means that women, unfortunately, have to deal with the sleazebuckets. If you are corresponding with someone you like, it might help to exchange email addresses early on, so that she's not discouraged from talking to you because she has to hang around OKCupid to do it...LOL.

Thats one of the problems I have with that place. Most of these girls (the ones that are real) are being hit on left and right. Its just not worth it to even try anymore considering the fool I will make of myself anyways.

Thing is, you need to keep in mind that younger men of say, 18 to 26 who use the dating websites are likely not to be looking for a real relationship (aka long term, leading to marriage, etc) since...well, they're young. Unlike young women, a young adult man is not really looking for that just yet. Hence you will find so many that will hook up with you, spend a few dates and try to get into your pants ...and dump you when it gets old. Not saying that many have found their lifelong mates there though, just saying that there is a big difference in the purpose and reasons for which guys your age range and older men use that website.
Its up to you to decide why you have a profile there and what it is you are looking for. If you just want to date and have a good time but nothing serious then yes, older guys will be creepy for you. If you are seriously looking for a partner in life then chances are the younger guys will not fit the bill. Women mature a lot faster than men do so you, at 19, are at an equivalent level of maturity to that of a 25~30 yrd old male. You will notice that most guys 18-25 will still behave like teenagers.
In any case, you are in control of who you choose to reply to.

It is misconceptions like this part of the reason I dont message anyone. I dont know where you live but where I do pretty much every girl is out there to party and get some. Which I am trying to avoid a bit. Its not that one matures faster than the other, its what society finds they should be doing. It just happens that people that say the same as you give guys the idea to keep being that way because it is what to be expected of them.
i think this is a fair point. it seems like people second-guess what they think the opposite sex is after, which doesn't seem to be very fair to them.
someone on WP (i think? maybe somewhere else) once pointed out that one red flag is if a user on OKCupid lists "short-term dating" as a goal on their profile. it points to a person being not very serious about dating, but perhaps the person doesn't want to go so far as "casual sex". logically, a person is either looking for something long term... or not.
apparently "short-term dating" is a code word for "friends with benefits", or repeat hookups, or someone who just wants to have fun, but the "casual sex" label is frowned upon.
it goes without saying that some prospects will end up not working out, so a potential long-term partner can end up as a short-term partner by default. therefore just listing "long term dating" as a goal would encompass both situations for a person who actually wants a life partner.
here are some people discussing it on OKCupid:
http://www.okcupid.com/forum?tid=15869241321616583522
maybe this stuff isn't always true, but it's something to keep in mind when setting up your profile or browsing other people's profiles.

Not NEARLY as much of a fool as the guys who think they can get into a woman's pants just by saying "hey baby ur hot, wanna hook up tonite, here's my cell number" Send a message that's relevant to the girl's profile, that shows you're interested in what she shows of herself/her personality in her profile, and you're already ahead of the high percentage of sleaze that's hitting on her indiscriminately (trust me, I'm on the receiving end of that sh!t).

It's still not ahead enough to get a response though... at least for me. Your mileage may vary...

Conversely, it makes me somewhat (read: very) -outraged to read BS stereotypes such as this, when I've been in several long-term, monogamous relationships with those "young men just looking to hook up", two of whom I co-habitated with (they asked) and one of whom asked me to marry him when we were both 18.
26? Many men I know are married with multiple children by 25.
