Me I have a feeling I will need to enter a retirement home earlier than a lot of other people would because I feel that I will be single for the rest of my life.

If I have any measureable wealth left when I die, I can give it away to charities and other causes I feel passionate about.

He probably didn't care much about relationships much. I bet if he had a choice of having a million pounds or having the perfect relationship, he would choose the money.

Sometimes I worry about it. Not just dying alone for a relationship wise, but sometimes I picture what my funeral would be like, and only my family shows up, and no one knows anything about what I was like. What legacy would I leave the world? Absolutely NOTHING and NO ONE who will cry when I pass away? THAT is what I most worry about. I don't want to feel useless. I want to be well loved, and missed when I die...

That sums it up pretty nicely for me.

But on the other hand, would be a very cheap funeral if nobody came..

Yes. I worry very much of getting a heart attack at night, and lying dead in my apartment for weeks or something. I have close friends, but they are used to not hearing from me every day, and it would take some time for them to figure out something's up. I am not too worried about funeral attention - but I am afraid I will look less than presentable by the time I am found.

Hate to get this topic back on track but I have in the past really worried about dying alone (which isn't about 'dying alone' so much as its the idea of living from here on out 40, 50, 60, with no one who really *knows* me, watch me grow and change with them, shared my intimate life experiences, I used to really feel a need for that).

Where things stand right now with my thoughts on it - just by seeing the way relationships are, the way most of them end up, the kind of person you have to be in order to be in most relationships, and I see where the kind of thing that would really make me happy in a relationship (the kind of friendship and deep connection) is probably more than a little unrealistic in the real world and that's all aside from the AS aspect. I know there's two sides of a relationship but what what I think would kill the happiness in it for me is that the opposite sex really demands a lot of conformity, a lot of times its about having a cute suburban house with an SUV and kids, it's about going to church (even if you aren't christian - its just part of the conformist ritual) and having the Jones's and their kids over for barbeques after soccer practice, going to PTA meetings, and oh yeah - whatever your career is you'd want to be the spitting image of that professions stereotype if you want to do well. If you just aren't wired right to be a Joe Typical (even if your still managing to be a good dad but just aren't being the right kind of Buford Stephlarie societal stereotyped image of what a dad or husband is, how he dresses, how he acts, etc.) its a pretty f'd up problem. That and not fighting enough is bad, its hard to keep your partner's respect if your the kind of person who just wants to talk things out, take care of the relationship problems, etc. - probably because metacommunication (talking about those things directly) isn't smiled apon and sadly wanting to work through things and not giving her enough scrap just for the sake of it crushes the quality of the relationship and will likely send her off cheating if again she doesn't pass you the divorce papers.

Thats why I realize that if I don't find someone who's enough like me to understand with me and be on page with me herself without having to try then its probably just not going to work. From looking around here, other aspie boards, etc. I get the impression I'd probably have a better connection with an NT (it would be nice to find an aspie I can connect with but that's getting impossibly rare) and she'd still have to be very atypical in her own way, strange enough to actually see a guy like myself and not sit there thinking "He's cool but he's....ehh.... I could do way better I'm sure...". I've met girls who I thought would be great for me and vice a versa all the time but the trouble is, there's lots of other guys out there just like me who don't have AS, are a lot more entertaining to em, and of course the problem with looking at NT's is that while you can get along well enough to pass or even create a bit of attraction you're never going to be able to connect with them as well, make them laugh as often, get them on the same page psychologically, or do as much as another NT could just because they have to try harder usually to understand you and again, having to try with communication is something most people just don't do. I figure if I was killing myself to conform and just about frying my brain everyday to make it happen a). I've already tried that and it only has so much mileage but also b). even if I got what I wanted, got the relationship, etc. I'd hate it. It would be way more pain and stress than anything, if I was *really* conforming I'd hate the guy I was acting like and in turn hate myself, and in that case being a have-not is still being better than a have just because, I'm not putting myself through some kind of personal hell - I'm being me, living life, and finding some semblance of happiness sometimes.

I said "not really" because whether or not I ever get married, I am confident that I will always have true friends and thus won't exactly be alone. Friendship means more to me than romance, though romance is good too.

From my perspective, we are never alone. Also, the notion of dying alone presupposes that one will die. My intent is to live.

I don't mind. It's not one thing I want to do before I die. I'm not worried. At least I can say to myself when I'm on my deathbed. "I've experienced this life, having a privelage to actually live." Getting married would be something, but I got along way to go since I'm only 14. Already I don't mind if I die alone. Thats something, IMHO.

You can't get used to that mate, not unless you are not very needy in first place. Deciding to search for love or not is not an option for some.

?????

Death is a GUARANTEE. You can intend to live all you want, but something will eventually take you. We are mortals and we cannot hide from that.

Aside from God always being with us, it is possible to be truly alone. It would be rare though.

I for one refuse to be alone throughout my life, because I have seen the disasterous results it can bring. I am an only child, and I only have four cousins, none of whom I know very well, and none of whom live around here. Being an only means that once my parents are gone, the only immediate family I will have is a wife and children, if I have those. I dread the prospect of not having a wife because I will have no one to turn to when I'm old. An elderly friend of the family lost her only sister at a young age and she never married, and now she is living on her own. We help her out whenever possible, but we do not live with her. She lives a very boring life, and she cannot get out much anymore. I look at her and I tell myself that I never want to be in her position.

Many die alone. You don't die with someone, except in terrible circumstances (a car crash or fire, for instance).

I've got an animal mentality about expiring in the presence of (healthy) others. I just don't want that, anything else but not that. When I die, I hope to slink away somewhere to do it. I don't want anyone to see me die. I'd rather no one even discover my dead body but this is not likely possible. I know it sounds grim, but my ideal funeral would be out in the wilderness, the attendees being wolves, vultures, and worms, to really be one with nature in death. Not that I enjoy the thought of dying in the least! But since it's a certainty, I have thought about it.

Yeah! I feel the same way. If I died, I wonder would anyone even notice that I was gone. Or will they just find my body once the smell gets too bad.

Just have to ask, is anyone feeling it from my angle of things that I brought up (mainly on the first paragraph)? As I look at this thead I'm just surprised I didn't see a lot of people in front of me saying the same stuff...

      I think I am destined to die alone (without a lover).
I can never love someone without being scary about it. Inevitably, the girl in question will leave me for a less creepy guy. :( For more info, see "Obsessions that lead to a broken heart".
