Shaming tactics against females
The important thing is to translate these into what the guy really means.
Actual translation: "I'm still so caught up in my adolescent fantasy that (insert supermodel name here) will actually date me, I turn down everyone else. And I'm nasty about it, because they ought to know I'm saving myself for her."
This one has several possible translations. See above, or below.
Translation: "I want everyone to think I can get someone way hotter than you. In reality, I'm still a virgin, never even kissed a girl, and I'm afraid if you got half a second to figure out what a loser I am, you'd dump me. So, to protect my illusions, and keep up the pretense, no thanks."
Translation: "I'm such an arrogant jerk, I don't care who I trample as long as I can pretend I have impossibly high standards. In reality, I have to pretend, because after all, no sane woman would stick around me for long."
There are a lot of guys who are jerks, although we're not all that way. And I've had women put me down just as painfully, and worse. ("You look like an abortion that lived." "You're a ret*d. Why would I go out with you?" "Ewww" *screamed loudly, in public*) But once I figured out that if that was an example of their personality, I was really much better off not getting involved with them, I was much happier. If someone can't manage to at least avoid going out of their way to be hurtful in a situation like this, spending time with them would be a far more unpleasant experience than I'd care to endure. So what they've just done is advertised, loudly, "I'm a jerk. I'm not worth dating, because you'd rather spend time at your dentist getting a root canal than hang out with me."

Seems accurate.
For this one, that's not the case. I was told that by two guys who can actually get really hot girls. I wasn't trying to hit on them either.
It's fine. I was just taking the piss out of boo's thread with this.
I don't know; I obviously wasn't there.

Thanx for opening this thread! Now, here's some of the things I know about men...
What a man says --> What he really means
"I like a woman who appreciates traditional values." --> I want the house clean, the laundry done, the kids quiet, and food on the table when I get home ... and I don't want to hear any bullsnot about having a "headache" tonight, either.
"Anything you wear is fine." --> Just put something on already! I'm gonna be scoping out the other women there, anyway...
"Yes, I think your sister's cute." --> I'd do that piece in a heartbeat. Scha-WANG!! !
"The kids are fine; don't worry!" --> I'm vaguely aware of the presence of some small people around here; but since I don't hear any blood-curdling screams, everything must be okay.
"It's a guy thing." --> It involves sweat, bruises, splinters, blood, alcohol, power tools, and the strong possibility of projectile vomiting.
Oh, geebus ... I'm such a hater!

I guess that since I say the above bolded phrases a lot, i'm a jerk, just more honest about it...

"You aren't that great looking"
"I can get way hotter than you - you're mud/dirt/filth in the looks department"
"You're good enough for a root, but I won't date you"
You'd be very surprised at how commonly these are used. I've had all of these used against me by males, aspie and not.
I've gotten "Maybe it's because I'm used to dating younger women..." Mind you, this was not the turn down, this was added on after the turn down, and I was only 27.

Cant believe you forgot my favourite one:
"You just arent going out to the right places to meet guys".
This one´s flexibility is impressive, if a female is looking for someone at a pub they should start looking elsewhere because they dont want to have a one night stand, if said female is going to another place someone will point her out that she should be looking at a pub.
As with the male shaming tactic it may be true for some females but most of the times its overused.

I am not sure what all that was supposed to mean...
But next time, if you see a thread titled "Shaming tactics against hermaphrodites", then you should know it's written by The_Face_of_bopp, our dear child.

Those are horrible things to say to anybody. And if they are gonna date you just based on your looks those guys are not very smart / mature. I was always so worried about hurting other people's feelings when I was dating, that I even refused to date a guy I liked a lot just because I was only attracted to him physically but I knew we could not work intellectually. I get surprised how people do not care hurting other people's feelings. I mean, we read everyday about people killing themselves because they cannot stand the jokes, the gossip, the bullying, but apparently people do not care about it.

so you are saying that the tone of this:
is the same as this?
one was intended to be funny about men, and the other was intended to give a warning about specific groups of women. they are not the same at all. and i don't remember saying that either form of sexism was ok anyway.

Probably because your feet curve in different directions... or bunions!?
