When you love someone it's natural, not demanding.
I thought love was only true in fairy tales.

No, song lyrics are not a place I'll go for my philosophy on love.
I'll do anything for love, but I won't do that.

Does everybody have the capacity for love?

Love is a mystery. I've read many books on the subject. I've watched endless films about it. Love remains a mystery to me.

That's why I feel sad whenever I hear The Beatles song, "All you need is love".

It is possible to be kind and thoughtful, but for this to fall short of love. Love requires the ability to feel, to be empathetic, and without these abilites, it's difficult to achieve what I understand to be "love".

I feel love is the positive side of passion, feeling, or connection, hate being the negative, disconnection, misinterpretation etc.

So to me I can say I love music, I've loved certain women, I love my family, and I love you people here :P

I don't think people ever fall in love for a particular reason. It just happens. That's why you get some people who fall in love at the drop of a hat, before they even get to know the other person. But when people fall out of love, they'll always have a reason. It's like logic and reason kicks back in... almost as if love and reason are mutually exclusive. When people are asked why they love a particular person, they often can't think up of a good, logical response.

Love requires a giant leap of faith and a willingness to completely lose control of your emotions, to let them run free. I keep my emotions on a short leash, so I am unlikely to ever fall in love. However, unlike what a lot of people might think, this doesn't bother me significantly. It only bothers me at all because I think I might be missing out on something others are getting.

how do you control your emotions?

I can place myself in situations that take me away from emotional instability...

Can we really control feeling?

It all depends on exactly what you mean by "love".
(The CEM Joad gambit, but there is reason behind it.)

A book, "Human Relationship Skills" which in many ways seemed excellent, used "love" in a way I would not see as within my experience or current capacity.
Mind you, it came close to excluding me from its definition of "humanity".

>>how do you control your emotions?<<

Emotions cannot be controlled. However, what we can control is the way we use them, react to/with them and act out on them.

Maybe this is love in a way. The raw, inexplainable positive feelings for another person channeled into your actions and thoughts.

But where do we draw the line between passion and obsession?

Reading these messages, it seems there are many kinds of love. The definition of love that seems the most profound to me is that between two people that both act in ways that create an environment for the other person to reach their full potential and feel cared for and happy. I like this definition of love, because the opposite of this describes some of the most unhealthy, and destructive relationships you can imagine, where love plays no part, such as co-dependent relationships.

Oh it is so true! I've been in way too many co-dependant relationships and they've never lasted longer than 6 months before the fights start.

About emotion, I think that is the beauty of love, passion itself being uncontrolled, but making the right choices so as not to over do it, so as not to depend and pull each other down in the lows, I've been able to support most girls I've been with in the low times, but when I fall and feel unhappy, I seriously feel UNHAPPY, and I can't share such hate with anyone ever again, I'd much rather put that passion into some form of creative expression.

Every girl I've ever loved I thought it was so pure, after it was over, I realised I was completely obsessed and at the time couldn't tell the difference, I think for me what I need in a partner is simply a comfortable place to "get away from myself" if you get me.

I don't believe in love.
It could possibly because i've never felt it like other people.
For me my girlfriend is a verry good friend that i am also sexually attracted to.
But i can't seem to get the same feeling as other people have.
Wanting to be with them 24/7 and thinking about them all day.
It just seems like i'm the person that can't be overtaken by love and have my life ruled by it.

I'm interested in feeling it sometimes though.
I'd like to know what it is like to truely love someone.

Not everybody at this present moment is free to place themselves in such a vulnernable position.

If you long to have someone in your life and have the desire to do what it takes, then you should be able to love.

We can control how emotions affect us. You can train yourself to not feel anything. The downside is that when you decide to feel again, you have a lot of old stuff to deal with.

I would describe it more as pure warmth and happiness of having that person in your life. There are plenty of reasonable explanations for the existence of love.

The littlest ways of expressing love can have the most profound affect on the loved one.

Love is free. Limerence is burdened.

I think that lust, liking, and limerence are what complicate love.

And I think most relationships have a bit of limerence in them.

I think if your love is pure, you won't miss someone because you know that you'll see them again.
That is the love children experience. They're not burdened with worries of jealousy or death.
