SIDENOTE: I've just realised that what this is called is a "secret crush". She has a secret crush on me. (Although not that secret as she has told our mutual friends)

And please don't be overly polite or with an overly amount of build-up, for that can come across as an insult, that you think she's weak or something like that.

In general, you just want to be matter-of-fact. The relationship has to work for you too.

Yes that's right. Infact she can be overly polite and say the same thing over and over again. And I am very nervous about getting the script and delivery absolutely right. So I am going to spend some time mulling this over and come up with something based on everyone's advice. I also need to get the venue right. I think coffee could be good as we could socialise for a bit and then I could bring it up and probably only spend an hour. Party's aren't a good place to bring it up, nor when she's visiting my house. It has to be a situation I have control over leaving. I hope that makes sense. I'm not being insensitive it's just that I don't want to get stuck or trapped on the subject. I want to be able to say it just the right way. I'm not into hugging her at the moment so perhaps it will be cold to her but I suppose by the same token I can't control how she feels or her reaction.

Any further ideas as to WHERE I could do it. i.e. Out for a coffee.

maybe you could let her know you arent interested in a roundabout way, like telling her you like a girl or something. so find a girl you like, and tell your friend that you like this girl, and tell her about the girl. i mean.. it will likely hurt her feelings, but i reckon any sort of rejection you'd use would do this. this way, you dont have to directly tell her 'hey, i know you are interested in me, but im not interested in you'.

it is important that she knows you will never reciprocate, however. putting this off is just mean, in my opinion. shes hoping for a future that will never happen.. the more you drag this on the worse it will be for her.
