It feels a bit weird to hug my bf, who is 5'4 to my 5'6. I have to hold my arms in a similar way that I hug my little sister. I am ok w/ it, it's not a big deal.

I didn't know my bf was short before I met him either. On OKC, the height info is off to the side and easy to overlook. As far as ppl not reading profiles, I intentionally ignore a profile of someone who sends me a really good message. I don't want anything on there to ruin a potential connection. I look at it a bit later after I start to like or not like them. People tend to be too picky when looking at person as a list of characteristics. I even notice myself starting to do that, so that is my way of avoiding that.

This should be added to the list of bad ideas about short men, this is even less masculine than "little brother" lol.

I am feeling like a Neo of dating lately, I have "hacked" the Matrix of the female mind (the common things they share like the height complex).

It's not really an issue of lacking masculinity. My bf lacks nothing in that department. :P It's just that I am used to hugging my sister more than anyone else. Not too many ppl hug me irl. She is the one that is close to his height. If I was used to hugging a short guy irl, those weird feelings wouldn't be there or at least would be less.

And you know, as soon as a guy hacks the matrix of the female mind, we change something. Watch out for deja vu. ;)

That's not my point, in my main post I was talking about FIRST impressions.

You already knew him well and had sex with him so you are now sure he's masculine, you're saying that now because you now know it. However, your little sister reference only means this is one of the FIRST ideas you would got if he approached you in real life in the conventional way, hence most probably would totally turn you off.

It's the online communication between you two is what 'hacked' your subconscious prejudgement system and broke your bf's shortness curse.

This is absolutely 100% true, I would have never gone out w/ him if I had met him irl. (Even if u disregard the fact that I almost never get to know anyone offline due to anxiety.) I shudder when I think of it. It is sad that people are still so strongly wired to notice appearance when it doesn't have much to do w/ compatibility at all.

I have a slight preference for women the same height as myself.

This threa should be sticked - damn all my threads should be sticked :p. They're more practical and useful than the current sticky threads.

But really, this thread is a treasure info for the short men.

Boo, my First impressions:

I met short men that were very energetic and had a strong personality. They weren't less masculine than their taller counterparts at all. The most masculine man I ever met was around 165cm. In fact he was too masculine, he needed a bit of relax...

I observe people a lot since I was a little girl, and I know short guys can be really masculine and yes, I have been interested in shorter men, men of my own height (I'm average) and taller men, but I don't have that strong interest or fascination about having a tall boyfriend, I'm not a little girl seeking paternal protection

We were talking about tall women's boobs and short men's heads during hugs, with visual demonstrations. Sorry, you missed out all the fun.

I am an NT female who is five feet three inches tall. All my life, I have been drawn toward shorter men. I would guess about 75% of the guys I have had crushes on or dated were 5.6 or under. My ex-husband is 5.5. Oddly enough, being tall (ie over 5.10 imo) is usually a detriment when it comes to me seeing someone was attractive. They have to have a lot of other outstanding qualities to counteract the over-tallness. I guess I want someone I can look in the eye without having to wear heels. :)

Those are average height men. Dating shorter men would be someone shorter than you, a in 5'3" and below.

I think that probably has a lot to do with it. When looking for a date online, physical appearance becomes less salient than when meeting people face-to-face, so the "personality" that comes through in the text is more readily available. A woman might feel a bit unsure about someone's appearance, but still read their profile in the comfort of their loungeroom (rather than actually going up and speaking to him) and can then be persuaded that he seems to have a great personality so he is worth getting to know.

I can't relate though, I'm actually the opposite. I prefer a taller partner whether male or female, and I definitely check their height on their profile before deciding whether to contact/respond to them, whereas in the real world I'm actually less likely to notice!

Can I ask you WHY you prefer a taller person, or why the height even matters at all in the first place? I never understood that.

Most women probably feel awkward and funny-looking in public with a boyfriend/husband that's shorter than them. The guy being way taller looks weird too in my opinion. That's why I said 5'11' is an ideal height for a guy in my first post.

The odd thing is: all women i went out through dating websites were taller than me (or same height but taller with heels). :-/ I am just 163 cm (5'3 for the complicated americans).

I thought dating websites asked for your height before you joined? That itself makes me feel at 5'9" that it's pointless joining one if you're under 6ft.

My theory goes like this:

Women in general like to feel feminine near a masculine man and the first impression they have about a shorter man is negative in that regard.
"Weak", "not masculine", "napoleon complex", "a boy", "can't protect", "little brother", "small dick" are probably the most common ideas that cross subciously the female mind upon seeing a man shorter/smaller than her. I heard/read all those expressions from women regarding the shorter men in different occasions which make me conclude they're common mainstream feelings, which lead to automatic rejection.

No wonder shorter guys have to be more aggressive when we get pushed down the evolutionary scale because of a factor that can't be changed.
