If theres a park with other people around(less threatening) I think a picnic could be something nice and a little different but maybe its not first date material

Depends on the person. For some theres things like parks and such which have enough outdoorsy stuff. Others the mall has a mix of entertainment/food, and for the rare few something uber fun like going to a sports game or car race.

I'd take her to a library; she'd be interested in books. :D

i do not think there is much literature that is written about "books" in libraries, so maybe she would soon be starved of new ideas about potential books.

what then would there be to talk about if one did not hog the microphone in a measure of narrative discourse?

i like to be alone

Go Karting.
Motorcycling taking turns who rides the bike.
Long walks in paces without other people.
At my place while I cook and he talks to me and I try to concentrate but can't and it doesn't even matter.
Clay Pigeon shooting.
Watching funny stuff.
Helping him buy shoes because he is hopeless.
He would say going to the pub with me and talk, but although I would do it, I hate it because there are too many distractions.
Watching Formula 1 and discussing all the drivers.
Goofying around in private, because no one else is judging and we certainly don't judge each other.
Listening to him play the guitar and attempting to sing the lyrics.
Making a fire on the beach and just sitting there enjoying (night time).

It depends on what the person likes, hopefully some of the same things you do, and a date can help emphasize that - what you share in common.

For me, even though they seem clichéd, a museum, art gallery or the zoo were fantastic choices, back when I was dating. Still are. I also liked eating at restaurants near the ocean, with a nice view, or being able to walk beside the water after dinner for a bit. But there are people who like other things. Try to find out what the other person's interests are before you plan the date. Give the other some options, options that you would also enjoy.
