Excellent..I thought some people on this forum were living in the 1950's, it appears my statement was quite forward in years by a few years.

Screw sophistication and charm, drag her back to her cave Grizzly Adams style so you can appoint her a loin cloth and cook her an animal skin and show her your primal skills. For some reason, if there's some type of natural disaster or nuclear apocalypse, she could well find living in your cave to be an appealing prospect.

Maybe if you stopped talking about women as if they are some kind of trading commodity and started talking to them, you might get somewhere. Does it anger you because women don't want to be independent instead of being dependent on you?

That's basically due to the masculine role (in most cultures).

There's sexism against women, and then there's Poe's Law levels of sexism against women. The kind of sexism that's so over the top ridiculous that you have trouble seeing how anyone could actually believe in any of it. China's attitudes toward, and expectations of, women fall into the latter category.

At least they're not quite as bad as some parts of the world (looking at you, large parts of the Middle East and Africa [also, wow does it ever sound like that's directed at you, Boo, it's totally not]) where sexism against women goes beyond ridiculous and into straight up nightmare fuel. Some places, probably the only reason why the female suicide rates aren't higher is because they all got stoned to death for the crime of being raped (and how dare she, after her family went to the trouble of cutting off parts of her genitals and sealing the rest shut, just to prevent that sort of thing) before they got the chance to kill themselves.

This scenario, I'm sure it's happened. Positive. Exactly the way I wrote it. Probably a whole bunch of times. But, you know the worst part, the really scary part, is that it's all carried by out by people who are perfectly normal, by the standards of their communities. Respectable, well-liked, regular people. I mean, f**k! What is the matter with humanity?

s**t. I was originally going somewhere completely different with this post. I was planning on talking about suicide rates and s**t. Never mind for now.

I totally agree with your post - However, women in my part of world are very passive and nonchalant when it comes to their civil rights, it enrages me lol but that's another topic. Mothers are major contributors of fueling sexism in a an overall sexist culture (and that's due to the fact that mothers are often more religious than fathers and religious thinking is sexist), it's ironic.
But we were talking about suicide rates? lol

It's part of the conditioning isn't it? Genderwise, culturally and religiously?

Mds: When you said that - I ended up with a mental visual of balancing chemistry equations in my head.
Even basic things don't work unless you balance out equations.

What I question is how that is supposed to happen now?
Is your current proposition the at men no longer feel needed or wanted, and have no set role and therefore they feel they cannot offer anything?

If that is the case - then I am curious - what do you feel is your role in your own LTR? I'm sure if you felt you did not have a role or that she needed you there then you wouldn't be there?

it generally is members of your own gender that give you the hardest time when you break the rules. In my experience, at least.

Honestly, I don't know what my role in the relationship is. Years in and I still feel insecure about it. She doesn't need me, at least not in the ways that I need her. I'm convinced that she does love me, I'm convinced that she does want to be with me (though that took far longer than it should have), but I have no idea why.

I tend to fit into the traditional male roles. Some suit me, some I've been forced into so hard that, even if I ever manage to get out of them it's not gonna be anytime soon. And the way things are for me right now, and for the forseeable future, I need a partner who can balance that.

She, on the other hand, is perfectly comfortable with both. She can fill my need for balance, for those things that are traditionally feminine, but doesn't seem to need what I have to offer. I have no idea what it is I can offer her that pretty much anyone else can't, and no idea why she treats me as well as she does and puts up with as much s**t from me as she does.

Odd how sudden though.

Like every sensible person, independently but all at once, said "f**k it, let's just be nice to each other."

And L&D was buried under a wave of constructive discussion from which it might never recover.

:lmao:

If you must jinx my discussion - at least answer the question/s in my last post before you do.

Did it occur to anyone that give high quality content to chew on and those who are more interested in such will take a more active and constructive role? Situational forces do count for something.

I'm more than happy to see women step up to the challenge of being equal. Imo, the best kind of women are strong, independent, and in need of no coddling. Quite a few seem quite happy to be subservient to men, however, even in first world countries. Ehh......how boring. A true woman is at a man's side, not his back.

Yes it is, but humans have minds too, otherwise revolutions would have never happened.

If only you can understand Arabic, I watched countless of talk-shows about the inequalities in Saudi Arabia, in at least half of the cases, the callers are Saudi women (with Saudi dialect that would be hard to be faked) who attack whoever is promoting equality or criticizing inequality in the kingdom.

Their argument is usually "this is islam" or "this is the word of God".

In that case I vote to put you in charge of choosing topics. A new and interesting one every day. Don't slack off, the future of WP depends on you.

Try to pick topics that let me talk about me. I think people will be interested in that. I'm fascinating.

To Everyone:

Guys: What do you feel is your role in your own LTR, or what do you feel you would want your role to be if you had were in one?

Girls: What role would you like your guy to have in an LTR that is different from the current or previous gender expectations as discussed in this thread?

Note: By "role" I mean the following: What you would require to feel needed and wanted, and / or something to offer in return or to what you would need to feel useful.

(Boo, BlueMax, Shau, MXH, Sandra, and everyone else who can answer.... please!)

I was thinking of KSA when I posted that. I am aware of the attitudes there - I have some personal experience with it. I know the women there enforce it. I've met some strident feminists from there as well as the exact opposite. But with education only been open to women for such a short time historically speaking - and very little available outside of the basics and religious education unless you have money (even then, often they choose not to educate them) - I'm not surprised by it at all.

Where is Hyper? We need her here to tell you how wrong you are again.
She's the only one you pay attention to when it comes to that sort of thing. ;)
It was simply an unproven theory - don't jinx it yet.
