I have a friend who is a divorced single mom, 43 y.o. These are her adventures with online dating. I think she used match.com and nerve.com:

guy 1: poet, single, no kids; turned out to be a cross desser. Broke up with her after a year, and told her in a long letter that he mailed to her a month after the fact that she was a terrible mother.
guy 2: teacher, no kids, became obsessed with her after 1 phone call, she had to threaten a restraining order.
guy 3: much older than she was, claimed to be a high level peace advocate who regularly travelled the world. He would get cell calls "from Iraq" while they were on dates, and to this day she wonders who or what was really calling him. Once he said he was going to Japan, but she noticed that he was online at the dating site, when supposedly he was on the plane flying to Japan.
guy 4: a pilot, married (she didn't know), 3 kids; they had unprotected sex and months after their last encounter he called to tell her he was actually gay (and married, to a woman).

Then she tried speed dating, and met divorced police officer with 4 kids, they are still together after 10 months.
