I'm not at all qualified to offer an opinion. But, I think it is recommended primarily to help you with the jitters.

I accept that but I can't help saying that agoraphobia is jitters, panic attacks, etc.

problem with this is that anxiety might not be whats holding people back in this case. its more a byproduct of the real cause of their issues

yes, true. it's possible that getting them to calm down a bit may help them a bit when dealing with the underlying issues, but i agree - those issues will not go away

I don't see how Propranolol would help long term. People need to get to know eachother. Are you going to continue to take Propanolol forever if you stay with someone for months?

People should want their partners to get to know them for who they really are.
Taking a beta blocker seems like a false front.
I know dating can be hell, yet i would rather be myself anyday than take a beta blocker.
What if the person doesn't like the you that doesn't take a beta blocker?
It's best to just be yourself. Everyone can get nervous at first, there are good people out there looking for the same. Dating can be a process.
A repetitive one for some, yet just realize that a partner should like you for who you are, no matter what social deficits are present.

I heard they give beta blockers to snipers in special forces.

Yes that true! Beta blockers main off-label use is as a performance enhancement. Musicians, public speakers, actors, and professional dancers use, plus its used in professional sports like archery, shooting, golf and snooker. There on the International Olympic Committee's prohibited substances list.

Kim Jong-su got disqualified in the 2008 Beijing Olympics for Propranolol doping.

I would not expect beta blockers to be very effective for dating jitters. They would block some of the physiological effects of anxiety, but not the psychological aspect. Your heart wouldn't be pounding, etc, so that might make you feel a bit better, but the anxiety would still be there. For an acute episode, I would think that a benzo would be a better choice and an antidepressant as the long term drug to use. I am, however, an engineer and psychopharmacology is only a hobby.

You know your mind has been corrupted when your first thought is "Beta blockers, huh? Is this some kind of PUA technique?"

Beta blockers can lower the sex drive. Depending on the user's desires, that could be a good or a bad thing. I've heard good things about them being used during very stressful situations. In the past, I read something about how they are often times used on people with high blood pressure. I believe OP once posted a thread about having dangerously low BP, so I am not sure how safe that would be for someone in that situation or one similar to it.

This isn't too far off. Though I think it's worth adding that a feedback loop can occur between the physiological and psychological effects of anxiety, due to thoughts like 'oh no my heart is pounding' or 'anxiety is making me sweat, hope they don't notice'. Beta blockers can help to reduce this cycle. But yeah in my experience as a regular propranolol user, it's no substitute for benzos!

Antipsychotics help with racing thoughts and "even" the psyche in general, if one's anxiety is caused by that.

Benzos do help, but the really effective ones (xanax) produce a nasty dependency, so one might want to save them for special occasions (including performance anxiety).
