You should not put too much effort into any given person unless you already have an extended relationship of some sort with him/her. NT don't do that and they think you're desperate if you do it. Things might actually work out better if you are willing to let go of people before you have to. I realize that it takes a lot of effort to develop a relationship with a person if you are autistic and you may not want to act like that.
