^^^^^The cat is sort of creepy in a way.
People here in the old days would sit up with a departed family member partly because of the belief that a cat will eat a dead persons face off.

To be fair I don't know if that's really borderline illiterate, but I've always wondered why we respect bilinguals less than people who have an incomplete grasp of their native language.

Because I don't expect someone to learn my language perfectly when I don't even know theirs, whereas if you can't even learn one language you've got a serious problem.

I concur, and that's the idea I'd like to see take root out there. 8)

Until recently I really didn't grasp certain things about myself... what makes me tick... what my issues were. Also - I would tell my NT boyfriend not to do such and such because it confuses me.. and I would turn around and do such and such to him... eh? (so would I be good to date another aspie... er.. not so sure lol)

I don't have experience with dating an Aspie.. but I have met some.. and personalities come into it too... One I met I didn't like all that much to be honest.... So there is more to just "dating an aspie" we are all different with different co morbids... so as hard as it is for us to understand NT's.. it can be just as hard to fathom another aspie... especially if that aspie is not keyed into themselves or you yourself don't understand what makes you tick.

My boyfriend is NT - but he has gone out of his way to understand me, adapt how he speaks to me and keeps my sensory needs in mind. I wouldn't trade him for anyone or anything. So maybe don't think about finding an aspie, but finding someone who is willing to accept you and grow with you - aspie or not.

Which ever you decide.. I hope you find happiness :)

The grammar stuff is cracking me up. Let's eat grandma. I pictured a person saying to their cousin to literally eat her because of no comma. Commas sure make a difference.

I also liked the joke about the first reply's grammar.

Tip #1: be prepared for some of us to act like jerks.

By the way, the grammar in the post I quoted wasn't exactly brilliant itself. It sounds like the person is pointing out that someone named Sorry can only read posts with proper grammar.

Dang! You beat me to it!

Nothing quite like missing a distinctive comma in a grammar complaint. ;)

The OP's posts are nowhere near "borderline illiterate".

In that case, I suggest you look in the mirror before criticizing someone else's grammar.

Saw this on a t- shirt related to grammar.
"Let's eat Grandma".
With proper grammar.
"Let's eat,Grandma".
It makes all the difference.
But mine is terrible,I don't think in commas.
I put them there for others benefit.

I was hoping someone would post the famous "Uncle Jack" quote.

Well... yes and no, uwmonkdm explains the issue well if you leave out the "illiterate" part.

Sorry for poking fun, but it's just like he says: If you want to date an Aspie, spelling and grammar are worth working on, because a lot of us are very particular about it.

And spelling and grammar aren't just about you either. The people reading the post can't just read some of the words you're writing; we have to slow down and think about each one, and make sure we're understanding you right. Then we have to put everything together and make sure the sentence makes sense the way we're reading it. And your girlfriend would have to, too. The gentlemanly thing to do for others would be to write in a way that's easier to read.

Don't forget that misspelling can change the meaning of some words, too. It can cause misunderstandings.

So no, it's not about grammar, but it kind of is / will be, for some Aspies you might want to date.

Not everyone attacked your grammar and spelling - I didn't... Some even defended you in it. So having a meltdown focusing on all the bad only hurts yourself. A few of us gave you some good feedback and it may be beneficial for you to come back to it later and see it while in a clear headed state.

Here is a solution for your spelling - type what you want to say into google and google comes back asking "did you mean..." and corrects your spelling. You can then copy and paste what you want to say. I do this constantly when I am having issues.

It doesn't help too much with grammar - but it does help a bit.

Good luck.
