What does it mean when a woman doesn't return compliments

I thought the appropriate response to a compliment was "thank you". I throw my hands up over social niceties, because I'm not going to start counting exchange rates.

I think it is thank you, but i always feel awkward.. but whatever don't return the compliment straight away, if you want to be equal make one later on..
But yeah if someone says "nice shirt" say thanks

Personally I'm not waiting for a compliment that's of equal value or anything like that, just a "thanks you, that's sweet of you" or "you're pretty ok yourself" would let me know I'm on the right track.

People generally overthink these kind of things way too much. Generally speaking, if a person wants to talk to you, they will. I a person wants to hang out with you, they will. I would believe the truth will be found that way, not with what your mind or other minds are telling you.

Yeah it turns out she just wanted to help. I do suck pretty bad at flirting so maybe that didn't help. Who knows.
