Before I start, I just want to say you've absolutely butchered this post. How hard can it really be to use the quotation system?

Shizzle wrote:
**not true -- only guys who are *totally* socially ret*d in terms of understanding whether or not a girl is "in the same league" as them have this problem.

If a girl is in your league, then you can easily get her interest even without the drink.

Quote:
**not true...in fact, NT alpha males are far more likely to offer a woman a drink....regardless of whether their intentions are "good" or purely sexual (one night stand kinda deals).

NT alpha males are far more likely to get the girl to buy HIM a drink. I get the feeling your standards for what makes an "alpha" are rather low indeed.

Quote:
**you're not giving a woman MONEY by buying her a drink...and if you don't understand this part, by all means, save up for a hooker.

Buying her a drink is equivalent to giving her the amount of money the drink costs. It's the same exchange, different currency.

Quote:
**depends on what you construe as "success" -- guys who are just looking to get laid, with no relationship intentions, target drunk females who don't care if a guy buys them a drink or not in the first place...because they're too intoxicated to care.

Success is getting sex, whether a relationship comes afterwards or not. I hope we've cleared that up.

Quote:
**guys who feel this way have a tendency to not get laid, ever...unless they pay a hooker.

Which way in specific? Who feel what way? You're telling me that guys who think women don't have sex with weaklings and pushovers tend to hire the services of hookers? A very strange belief indeed.

Quote:
Again, if you don't get the big picture by now, by all means, save up your money and get a hooker...seriously.

I'm quite happy with my current setup of having free sex without buying the woman anything. While we're at it, I tend to avoid women at clubs and bars, they don't tend to make for great intellectual conversation.

Quote:
**unless or until men spontaneously grow female genitalia, they'll never understand how a woman thinks or feels, regardless of their "success" rate.

We don't need to understand how they think or feel, we just need to know what works. Btw, women are not some kind of alien creature that have thoughts completely foreign to those experienced by men, so the comment that we'll never understand how they think or feel is BS, to be honest. I bet you also think that NTs cannot possibly fathom the mind of an Aspie?

Quote:
...and as for the cheap-ass jerks who *are* successful with women?

You heard it here first, folks: Men that are successful with women are cheap-ass jerks.

Quote:
-- there's a 100% chance that they are better looking than over 90% of the other men in the room...btw, every hetero male can determine this easily, regardless of whether he's aspie or not.

And men that are successful with women are always super hot. Ugly guys NEVER get laid!

Personally I just wouldn't do it, especially if you don't know the girl. It just isn't a good idea.

If she is an acquaintance or something - and if you can do as *giving a gift freely* then go ahead.
If you can't do it without expecting something in return - don't do it.

And if a girl likes you enough, Shau is right, she probably will buy one for you. Or at least buy the second one for you.

How much does a drink cost? Like $3.00 for a middy of beer?

One of the reasons it's such a common way to show interest (by asking a girl/guy if you can buy them a drink) is because it's inexpensive and not indicative of a person's wealth to afford to do so. For most people, the cost of the drink is trivial and throwaway money. If it wasn't they wouldn't be out on a friday or saturday night themselves throwing it away. If they ask for a $10 cocktail you're welcome to have a reservation about it though (if they're drinking a $10 cocktail before you approach them that's your cue to take interest in someone else, because the silly social rule states that you have to offer to buy another of whatever they're drinking).

I'm always inclined to turn them down because I'm likely to be drinking spirits which cost about $5-$6 and due to the price I'd feel bad asking them to buy the same thing when they ask me what I'm drinking, so I'd feel the need to ask for a cheaper drink like beer or cider on tap, but then I'd be mixing drinks and mixing drinks gives you a bigger hangover. Unless the sparks really fly no guy is worth a hangover.

But it doesn't stop there, the guy has to pay the date too.

Women like shizzle promote that idea that guys should pay pay pay, because it's simply financially convenient for them lol.

1. It is supporting a sexist system - it is benevolent sexism and unfair to me since young white men and women have the same earning power in cities

2. It makes you look weak and a pushover. Or desperate.

What do y'all think?

the whole idea is that a guy who finds a girl attractive *offers* to buy her a drink -- to have an excuse to talk to her in the first place. if she accepts the offer, his chances increase greatly for being able to talk to her more and getting her phone number for a possible date in the future --

so, when that's the case, BUY HER THE DAMN DRINK! -- and screw the "sexist system" crapola -- that's how it works, Mister -- and who gives a flying crap if it makes you feel like you're weak or a pushover or desperate, or blah blah blah, freakin' blah -- if you ever wanna GET screwed, you've gotta put on your big boy pants!

on the other hand, if you're not interested in her, don't freakin' waste your time or money.

and yes, i'm a freakin' expert -- i'm female. :D

(btw, i have NLD, and i'm pretty much NT socially)

I don't need to pay people to talk to me. Doing so is a sign of weakness.

I have gotten laid before by being a cheap ass jerk, The idea of grovelling before the female sex goddess hoping to get some causes women to lose interest in my opinion. Sure, you think a certain way. But does it work this way in real life? Typically, guys who do this give off a desperate vibe.

The best way to attract women in a bar is to be social, funny, and nonchalant. The only way money Is going to affect your chances is in how it affects how you clothe yourself.

It's not a matter of looking strong or weak. It's simply a matter of not being necessary (though if you do do it, it won't hurt you in anyway).

Whether you buy her a drink or not won't change how interested she is in you. A drink won't make her obligated to spend the night with you and she won't reject you because she didn't get you a drink.

If she's not into you, you wasted $3-5. That, and some girls go into bars with no money knowing they'll find guys who will pay for their drinks any way.

The only female Ive bought for a drink this year , without asking her to give me the money(no issue with that one since I dont really mind waiting at the bar and all), is three times my age and this was only because she showed that she cared for me as a friend way before any drink was bought.

If I have to win anyone´s attention by buying them a drink I figure its really not worth the effort, regardless of their gender because after that they are likely to expect more and more for me and it sets the wrong idea on what this relationship will be based on imo.

I do return the favour whenever someone invites me for a drink but thats just a politeness thing

I'm a woman and even I think she's full of it. No system should exist because "it's the way it is." That's how we fall into groupthink or wind up holding onto archaic and damaging practices: being too cowardly, lazy, and small-minded to critically inspect what's in front of us.

Buying women drinks is something you find in 80's and early 90's movies. It used to be like this: if you meet a woman in a bar, you have to buy her a drink at least once. The practice started to fall out of favor in late 90's, and pretty much disappeared completely by 2010. I never hear of men buying women drinks anymore. A girl I used to be friends with confirmed it. I never buy women drinks in bars; I make it a hard-and-fast rule. The only women who are allowed to break the rule are: (1) I spent at least 30 minutes talking to her, and she sounds like a person who's worth my time; (2) I danced with her at least twice, and know for a fact that she's single; and (3) I feel completely relaxed and comfortable in her presence, in which case, I almost feel like she deserves a drink.

Texas is a bit behind. I agree that DC is like what you describe.

Well one of my female friends is from Baltimore and this hasn't happened.

It could be my female friends are just well-educated career women who don't give off the dumb and easy vibe.

I think you should be more careful with your assumptions of people. Mine are both college educated and employed individuals. Neither of them would be defined as dumb or easy.

My middle sister has plenty of males offering to pay for her drinks.

Then again she is aware that this means having to deal with men she has little/no interest on for quite a while so quite oftenly she just gets drunk with her friends before going out to avoid having to go through this...

I truly would never just go up to a guy stranger, and be all like "hello, would you buy me a drink ?"

To put it in the style of a popular song (and derivative annoying meme) :

"Hey, I just met you and this is crazy.
But I'm a cheapskate, so treat me maybe ?"

Maybe I have the wrong end of the metaphorical stick, though ?
