I wish my parents had got divorced.

Staying together for the children is just stupid in my opinion, if the situation is intolerable or consistently unsatisfactory. However, all situations are different.

My attitude is marry when you are really, really sure that things will all be, generally, good. And even then, that's no guarantee.

That's my attitude on people deciding whether they should have children or not.

You might not agree with me that being born out of wedlock is a bad thing for the child, but you can't argue with numerous studies that have been done on a person's chances for living in poverty are much greater if they are born out of wedlock.

Did you ever stop to think perhaps those babies born outside of marriage are being born *because* their mothers live in poverty, and as such have very little choice in the matter?

I stayed married "for the kids" and because I was afraid I couldn't take care of myself, all that did was to cause more suffering. They both totally supported me when I got my divorce. My youngest was 16.According to them I should have done it sooner.

But the person born out of wedlock's chances of living in poverty as an adult are also greater As a result of this. If you don't get the proper guidance from both parents than you are at an extreme disadvantage later in life too. I stated how I felt about women's rights earlier.

This is exactly why I got my divorce. I was that kid, and I did not want my children to endure the dysfunction if they did not have to. Besides, things were escalating with my ex, getting more abusive by the day. Eventually, my children would have been pulled into it. The fights were already taking place in front of them.

You're completely missing the point. Blaming the parents is pointless and misguided.

No the parents are the only people to blame. If they don't plan on staying together than they shouldn't have children. That's just how I feel after growing up with divorced parents.

The original person I quoted was right; people are more selfish, women have careers now so if they aren't happy they don't have to try and make things work like they would in the old days. I'm not suggesting women shouldn't be able to have a career, but this wedlock birth rate never used to be a problem.. And the older generations have much better work ethic and values than the younger generations do.

Me deciding it's not worth the effort to go around in circles does not constitute a win on his part.

I got one vote from somebody because of my argument.

The only way your going to get a vote is if somebody doesn't like me, wants to side with you and those really don't say much about the substance of your argument.

No, it just seems like you take it personal when people don't side with you.

First the other night as soon as leletch sided with me, that's when the big argument that led to the thread being locked started, and now again leletch siding with me your not accepting that so far my argument appealed to more people.

Leletch doesn't have an agenda like other people on this board do, in fact he is one of the most level headed debaters here.

I'm pretty sure he was mocking you, but whatever makes you happy, I suppose.
