The one I'm in now which was officially a relationship in about April 2012.

Perhaps. But in my experience, most women know within five seconds of seeing a man whether they would sleep with him, even if they don't do it. And men usually know within a couple of days whether a woman is just somebody to sleep with, or somebody worth taking home to mom.

Say what you wish about it, but I think that certain spark is necessary for a romantic relationship to work out, no matter what you may choose to call it.

I was in a relationship for 10 seconds. It was during 8th grade at a dance party and this one big black lady asked me to be her bf so I said yes reluctantly. Then I walked up to her and said I don't wanna date you. I'm not attracted to big black ladies sorry.

No wonder she was mean to me the rest of the school year...


If I ever get into a "real" relationship. I will count that one as my first.

3 or 4 months, it was such a long time ago.

Though I did have a relationship with a girl who would just ring me up out of the blue for me to go and have sex with her, as I only actually went to the pub once and to a restaurant once with her, I dont really count that as a "relationship", just a girl using me for sex thing, so that probably went on for quite a number of months.

Generally though, I manage to dump them after a few weeks.

I definitely agree about the spark thing. But if I had to be IN LOVE to keep a relationship going in the early stages, then I would never have a relationship. Love comes later, generally. But yeah if there's not even an interest/spark then it might not be worth continuing. Personally I wouldn't START a relationship with someone with whom I didn't have spark. After one or two dates I'll know if it definitely isn't going to work...and two dates is still a distance from a 'relationship'...which is a distance from 'love'.

Blabby, O think the relationship I'm in now has worked in large measure because we don't see that much of each other, though we talk on the phone daily. Absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder. I'm always happy to see her come, and go. I prefer to be alone most of the time, but not all of the time.

Katherine Hepburn was fond of saying "maybe men and women are not so well-suited for each other, maybe they should just live apart and drop in now and then." but I am not even at that level. but it is probably for the best.
