What it feels like to kiss a smoker = :eew:

No difference. Sorry to break it to you, but you are sadly deluding yourself if you think doing any of that would have disguised your ashtray breath.

I mean no offence by comparing your breath to an ashtray. I don't mean to be rude. I'm just stating facts.

Breathing in smoke passively = :eew: and

Smelling stale stink on clothes and fingers of smoker = :eew:

Seeing their yellow teeth and smoking wrinkles = :eew:

Observing their disregard for their own health = :( and :wall:

Noticing how much money they waste on cigarettes = :?

Getting their smoke smell in your freshly-washed hair =

In summary, smokers in general = :eew: :( :? and :wall:

Naw... I can't stand smoke as it often makes me feel unwell, it's harsh on the sences and too much cigarette smoke exposure is a big triggers for migraines. So... it would be a deal breaker unless the smoker is not a heavy user, smokes outside and in a direction of the wind away and is able to mask it well. I have a hard time dealing with any sented purfume and aftershave, let alone cigarette smoke... :?

Everybody's different. The non-smokers I was with had no complaints about the smoking. The withdrawing into my shell and being uncommunicative (or their own bad habits) was the reason the relationships didn't work out.

I wasn't implying your smoking was the reason your relationships ended. Only you know why that happened. I was just making the point that smoker's breath is virtually impossible to disguise, and it smells and tastes disgusting.

Perhaps everybody is different in terms of their level of tolerance for it (which is what this thread is about: "would you date a smoker: yea or nay?") Personally the taste of a smoker's mouth makes me recoil and gag. Oh, and I don't like kissing someone who's been eating strong mints, either. I share your aversion to strong artificial smells but the same applies to strong artificial flavours. I can't eat strongmints and the taste of them in someone else's mouth makes me gag and have to pull away if they try to kiss me.

All those smokers who use strong artificial tastes to cover up their ashtray breath are just layering one problem on top of another. If they want to have a nice-smelling mouth, they should stop smoking. Minty ashtray doesn't taste much better than plain ashtray anyway.

NO. Second-hand smoke is hazardous to your health, so that's a big deal breaker for me.

Smoking is a dealbreaker. As far as I'm concerned, if you smoke you're committing slow, painful suicide, and I'm not going to sit back and watch my partner succumb early to emphysema or lung cancer, and sicken me too with her second hand smoke. A fiend of mine lost BOTH her parents to lung cancer. Her mom was a non smoker but she lived for decades with her husband who DID.

I wouldn't date a smoker because I have bad sensory issues with cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke gives me headaches from hell.

I get that. I'm just saying that not everyone is as repulsed by the smell of smoke, or smoker's breath, as you may be. Personally, even when I was not smoking (I quit several times for more than a year), I couldn't taste it when kissing a smoker. And, even when I am smoking regularly, I don't like the smell that comes off the non-filtered end - one of the reasons I've chosen not to smoke in my house or my car. I still have all the dirty clothes my fiance wore the last few days before he was killed - unwashed, because they still smell like him. A combination of cigarette smoke, motor oil (he spent most of his free time working on cars and motorcycles), and his own personal man smell (pheromones?). They're sealed in a plastic bag to retain that special perfume for as long as possible, and they smell wonderful to me. It may sound creepy to some, but the way he smelled was one of the things that attracted me to him in the first place.

I had chronic sinus problems most of my life & being around smokers or in environments where people have been smoking(even if no one is currently smoking there) can really get to me after abit. I also think smoking is a hazardous lifestyle choice. But that being said there is aLOT more to a person than if they are a smoker or not & I have some bad traits myself(I'm a very picky eater who loves fast-food) so I should give the person a fair chance if that's the only strike against them but I'd much prefer them not to smoke & would try to get them to quit or set some boundaries.

I agree. I don't smoke but putting up with smoking is the least I can do. I'm sure it's nothing compared with what the other person would have to go through. :)

In general I find smoking, bad for my senses. People that smoke, stink. Maybe that is a bit too harsh, they smell bad for me. (maybe that is nicer?) :P

Pros:
They get to be in a unique social circle
They make friends faster

Cons:
Yolo while dying a slow death
Once they decide to quit and live a few years longer, their loved ones have to look on while they cough up their guts into a bucket for the next 15 years of their lives.

I smoke hookah. There's a couple of hookah bars downtown where I live and smoking hookah is becoming quite popular with people my age, (college kids and such.)
