This thread is worthless without an anonymous poll.

If he's a decent human being who at least tries to be the best he can be, why not?

ummm no.

when i was younger, i did date men that were considered "hot" but they all had great personalities. Now i date men i like and don't worry about societal pressures on what is "hot".

No it's not. I made it as a discussion thread, not as a statistics gathering thread. What exactly would I do with the results of a poll? I'd much rather read the responses where people say what they have to say.

Nope, nope, nope. For me there's no physical attraction unless there's intellectual attraction. I don't care HOW hot he is.

I once dated a guy for a few months who was seriously good-looking - pretty close to model/movie star good-looking. At first he was extremely interesting - he'd led a varied and interesting life and had lots of fascinating stories. After a couple months, I realized that those "interesting stories" were his stock in trade, and were about all there were to him - no intellectual depth at all, just a moderately good repertoire of stories that he told well (and then began to repeat after he went through his repertoire). I got bored and moved on.

Just how tiny was he? :?

I thought that girls weren't supposed to care about such things.

I'd go for personality over looks. Looks don't last forever but a personality certainly does.

Define "crappy personality". By a lot of people's opinions, my personality is crappy. I couldn't date anyone who was too bossy, arrogant, self-righteous, prejudiced, or a bully. I also couldn't date someone of low intelligence, it's hard enough to interact w/ those people at all. I have too much trouble communicating w/ someone who's not on my level.

I admit I might be blinded by the hot and go out on one date. But... meh.

On the other hand, I'm kinda in a relationship like that right now. My lover is very nice looking, but not super bright (not dumb, just not so intellectual) - but this is a relationship based on sex and liking only. We're not dating.

Another thread made me think of this. So, if you met a really, REALLY hot guy and he had a crappy personality, or was dumb as a rock, would you date him just for his looks?

By crappy personality I don't mean a jerk or abusive, just a crappy personality.

I once dated a guy whose personality sucked so bad that I hated talking to him. He was also dumb as a rock and a bigtime redneck. He was so bad that I told him not to talk much around my friends either. Apparently he was used to that so he complied. He was the hottest guy I've ever gone out with though. Built like a God too. He was model hot. Being in the movies hot. A model in the movies hot lol. We dated for several months until I just couldn't take it anymore. Plus, he had the smallest penis I have ever seen. That did not help matters any. On the plus side, he had a motorcycle and was some kind of blackbelt in Kung Fu (not that Karate that you send kids to after school).

So, would you date a hot guy who only had his hotness going for him? If so would you only date him when you weren't looking for a long term relationship? I was young when I dated this guy and wasn't looking for anything permenant then.

But what if his crap personality was music to their ears for others?

There was one time in my life when a young woman (she was 22 and I was 23) basically invited me to go back to her room with her and have sex (while we were walking around together in public).

Why this is relevant to the thread is that, later on (after we were at least informally in a relationship) she confessed to me that at the time, she had actually thought me one of the most annoying people she had ever met. However, she propositioned me because a.) she assumed I would consent because I had obviously been hitting on her and b.) I somewhat resembled her ex and c.) she hadn't had sex since she broke up with her ex and wanted it.

So I would say this satisfies the "crap personality" bit and although I can't say whether anyone would have considered me "hot" at the time, she at least considered me desirable enough to want to have sex with for its own sake.

BTW this was the one time in my life anything quite like this ever happened to me.

Oh, so are we talking "having sex with a hot guy with a crap personality" or "dating a hot guy with a crap personality"? When I was younger I had a short-lived fling or two with some really hot guys - but I had no interest in turning it into a long-term, serious relationship.

I'm sure there are plenty of women, just as there are plenty of men, who only care about what their partner looks like. Whether it is for a one-nighter, casual dating, or a serious relationship, there are always going to be people (of both genders) who are most interested in good looks. Perhaps even solely interested in good looks.

I've known a lot of men (of all ages) who can only get turned on by an utterly gorgeous woman, and don't give a rat's ass about their personality. I've had a lot of men like this as platonic friends - they long for someone with a brain and a decent personality to talk to (hence, the reason they were friends with me), but they would only "date" the serious hotties.

Women, I think, if they're going to be shallow about it, will go for some combination of looks and money/power.

Both of these tendencies are evolutionarily programmed. Men want to hook up with the best vehicle for perpetuating their DNA (i.e., beauty). Women want to hook up with the best vehicle for protection of her and her offspring (i.e., perceived power, whether it be physical strength or financial strength).

I think the consensus among the WP ladies, however, is "NO, I would not date a hot guy with a crap personality."

My conclusion is that all of us at some point in our lives may very well go for form over function (looks over personality), but as we "mature," we are probably going to place much more value on function/personality.

No.

I'm ignoring a guy who's handsome, tall, has pretty eyes, a sexy smile, and wears nice clothes that make him look hot. He said that I was "very, very stupid", and I can never forgive him (I told him straight and gave him a couple of chances to apologise).

Otherwise, yes, he does have a crap personality. He'll come out with quotes I've heard before, or comes out with unfunny jokes, and he's very rigid in his thinking, and negative. Most of all? He is very insincere. It's like watching a calculator pretending to be human. I much preferred it when he was himself, but I guess he was when he made me out to be very, very stupid. :? He places all emphasis on impression, goals and intelligence.
