Ironically? jk

Aren't those horrible profiles supposed to be tongue-in-cheek?

But if I were to write a completely honest profile, it would be a very unattractive one. I'm tempted.

Because some women are not simply searching for "a men", which is just like "a woman" pretty easy to find, but are searching for "a partner" which is for both sexes pretty hard to find?

^^^This. A man with any self respect would have standards too.

My message was tongue-in-cheek too but she responded with a tongue-in-sh!t, oh well...

I LOLed so hard after reading that article (and sympathized with the author's urge to collect cats.)

Face of Boo: I LOLed because I'm pretty sure that the people responding, if they thought about it, would think "oh hell, no." But they weren't thinking. (I mean, really: "I'd like to pull your teeth"?) It is indicative of social hypocrisy that with a hot picture, someone can say that sort of thing--sometimes it seems like 'character' is important only in it's relation to how horny someone is at the time and how little they regard the personality of the people they meet. Social hypocrisy is pretty funny in general.

I done collected all the furry animals I can support right now (glares at kittens), but hamsters are adorable.

I'm prefacing the following by saying I'm f*****g lit right now, so I hope this is coherent and not offensive. :drunken:

If it's neither, I'll explain myself when I've passed the Ballmer Peak and slept. I had to be up after four hours of sleep to attend a conference from O'Reilly on big data and conflict/emergency management this morning.

I used to have a profile on OKCupid (and I date men and women). My general impression was that OKCupid was typically used by people from lower middle class and working poor classes, with some exceptions. Since that's only sort of an issue for me (as long as they're tolerant of my academic weirdness), I didn't actually find it that bad for finding someone to talk to.

As far as general 'quality', it really is rather a judgement value, isn't it? If your standard is class-based, OKCupid is definitely not upper middle to upper. If your standard is intellectual, that's a small fragment of the population and you'd have to select carefully no matter where you were (there are some fairly dense college graduates out there). If your standard is without entanglements from previous relationships, I think that's actually listed in the profile.

What, exactly, are you looking for, Boo? What is this 'quality' you're referring to on OKCupid?

I do not judge people's quality by their financial class or even education, nor even by IQ, by low I mean they're morally low and a**holes.

The Face of Boo: Morally low as in not in control of their actions or seeming to be unable to calculate the consequences of their actions? Fair enough.

Look, my laughing at that article actually isn't a judgement on dudes, but at a society in which looking hawt is more important than not scamming money from someone and pulling their teeth. That's some comedy gold, that is.

No one took your comment as judgement on dudes.

Those dudes are desperate horny with no self-respect and they would message a female sheep if there was a profile for it.

And because bad sex with a selfish partner doesn't fix loneliness. Really.

It just makes it worse. No sex is better than sh*t sex, especially as a woman. Unlike men we don't have the almost guarantee of finishing each time.

It seems intuitive to me that "s**t (anything non-essential)" is generally worse than lack of it. However, I've heard it said that sex is like pizza: even if it's bad it's still pretty good. If this was true (or widely believed to be true) that could explain a lot. :)

That's true for men. Not for women.

This is a case where men tend to prefer quantity, and therefore due to ToM issues and forgetting basic biological and physical differences, cannot understand why women prefer quality.

Since we are talking stereotypes, let me continue your legacy:

Women also seek a quantity of approvals and male attention. I have never seen men being so concerned about getting attention, compliments, "comments and likes on fb" as much as some women.

You may be surprised to learn it was a woman who said it. :) But I certainly don't blame you for assuming otherwise.

Eh, in that case she was probably referring to the bad to boring sex with a normal guy. It is standable for a lot if women. Bad to sh*t sex is a whole another category if you have a selfish partner.
