I can over the top sometimes with romantic gestures I just get a really nice feeling spending a day or so planning on preparing something that I know my partner at the time will appreciate I get a nice exited to see their expression feeling the whole time I am doing it. I wrote my last partner a short story about our little adventures and illustrated it and had set up a nice picnic at a little isolated beach I knew and suggested we go for a walk that night and it was all ready with candles it was a great night

Yeah, the planning can be loads of fun, can't it? The whole walk on the beach thing sounds quite romantic (beaches are gorgeous places).

The feels are shipped in by train once a week--Friday, I'm in love.

salamandaqwerty: And a fire! Sounds very romantic (and must have been good by the residual warm fuzzies.) :)

I like cooking for people and doing little things, like surprising them by putting notes in their coat pocket. But, mostly my thing is sticking with people through tough times and being supportive in more tangible ways. I kind of drop the ball when it comes to flowery stuff.

That makes me think of something a guy did for me years ago. We were both students at the time and he'd just gotten laid off from his job, so I asked him not to get me anything for my birthday. He insisted, so I told him that if he was going to do anything, not to spend more than $10.

I went over to his place on my birthday, while it was ice-cold and sleeting outside, and he showed up at the door in a Hawaiian shirt and swim trunks. I walked in and he'd turned his living room into 'a tropical getaway' for the night.

He'd moved all the furniture into another room and gotten this huge tarp and a couple bags of sand to make a beach, made cardboard palm trees and borrowed tiki torches and a cd with hula music from someone. He'd even gotten plastic lei's and baked a pineapple-flavored birthday cake, which we ate while sitting on beach towels in the torch-light.

Best birthday ever. And, dirt cheap.

Man, was that sand a pain to clean up, though. We were finding it in the carpet for months afterwards. His poor landlord, lol.

You have no idea how nervous I was about the timing and execution... it didn't go half as I planned but it turned out rather well.
The phone I had planned to fix for her after the movie but at the restaurant I had a table to work on and we had time to kill so what the heck I did it...

I was thinking of giving her the flowers and stuffed animal when I dropped her at her house but the opportunity opened when she left her purse sho.... I took it thinking she'd find it as we left the theater (I was sweating bullets the entire walk out & ride home ... a woman that doesn't have to put something IN or OUT of her purse for an hour? wth? :P ).

I don't normally go overboard like this but the timing of the movie and the arrival of the phone parts by mail coincided and the idea of overloading her mind that day looked to me like something she needed. :)

The planning part was quite exciting too haha 8)

blueroses: That's totally adorable. I'd have been a puddle of girl after that--made of gooey, squishy feels.

Dantac: That's even better--sometimes chance presents you with alternatives, and it sounds like you did an excellent job of taking advantage of them.
