 My only experience of spam was yucky school dinners. One of the options was deep fried spam fritters. (Jamie Oliver would have a heart attack) I can still remember the horrible taste. Never ate it again.

I've actually never served a dead person anything at a funeral. I guess just one more example of my total lack of social skills.

Yeah....you don't want the person to think you have no manners--on his way to Heaven. He/she might tell God on you!

My grandmother used to go and put food and broken dishes on the grave for the first 30 days after somebody was buried. She said it was to remind them that they were dead so they wouldn't haunt anybody. I'm serious. She said when they saw the broken dishes and the food they couldn't actually eat that they would remember they were dead and lay still. As far as I know she was never haunted by anybody, so maybe she was right. She was about a lot of the other hoodoo stuff she taught me.

I didn't do that for my mother though. She was buried an hour away and we only have one piece of crap car and my husband drives it to work. I did make a doll of her with some of her in it though, and I did blood bind us by putting my blood down under the casket into the vault after the graveside service was done and the priest left and did a little thing there. So, I think she knows she's dead.

Some cultures do bury food with their dead though. I've put things in caskets with people before. Notes, booze, Mass cards. I wouldn't mind if somebody put Spam in mine when I go. I like Spam. Obviously, as it factors into my plot to revert society back to 1962 and install Don Draper as president and make things back like they are supposed to be! ;-)

(Everything was true in that post except the plot thingy)

How about Huey Long as president?

Who is he? I want Christie next time, from what I've seen of possible options so far.

Huey Long was a Louisiana guy in the 1930's who advocated "sharing the wealth" and other populist ideas during the Great Depression.

There was almost a cult centered around him.

I find Christie to be too much of a "politician's politician."

He is probably the only man, when filling out his presurgery report, who answered the question "Why do you want gastric bypass," to answer with "So I have a better shot at being the next president."

You know, I bet they do serve Spam at funerals in Hawaii, though probably not to the deceased. I was pretty judgmental about the stuff too until I spent some time on Maui and saw just how many different ways they were preparing and serving it, many of them pretty dang tasty. It's pretty much the national dish all throughout Polynesia, and not because it tastes like people either.

I think serving this spam on an online date will get you blocked

If a woman made me a meal of eggs and spam on a first date I would straight up melt with glee. Not because I especially like spam (it's decent but it's fairly rugged) but because the concept of preparing spam on a date is so outlandish that if she did that I would be almost sure that I had a "winner".
