There is an expectation from some women that proposals should be grand and public spectacles...many times with an element of competition between other women. It's not a majority, but it's how Bridezillas are born.

The easy remedy is to avoid high maintenance women. I was proposed to in my living room, and we picked out our rings together. :)

So in other term, you're saying that AngelRho's wife is high maintenance and that she wouldn't have said yes if it wasn't for the proposal in jewelry sotre.

You have to explain yourself to him.

No, that was a completely different scenario. His wife just wanted a firm marriage commitment, not airplane writing in the sky while serenaded by a dozen violinists.

Hiring a plane and violinists may be less expensive than some jewelry. :p

I'm maybe biased. I pretty much abhor spectacle in my life. Some people value those things, or memories differently and place a lot of importance on them. But I do doubt the drama of the proposal and cost of the engagement and wedding, have any effect on the marriage lasting. I never saw the sense of expensive rings or weddings anyway. Take the money and go on a fantastic honeymoon trip makes more sense to me.

We saved the string quartet for the actual ceremony. It was nice. But they don't come cheap. I composed most of the music, and wrote arrangements for what little bit wasn't original. I made sure I got my money's worth out of them.
