I just know that it isn't for me. I need alone time, I need down time. I can take about 30mins hanging out with my nieces before I feel drained. I'm fairly sure that having a baby around 24/7 would be very detrimental to my mental health.

I think having kids is probably one of the most amazing experiences (including pregnancy, childbirth, all that), and I feel it is a shame that I won't experience it , but at the same time my life would be a LOT harder than it already is if I tried to raise children.

I am a proud Autistic "spawner" of children, grand children and one great-grandchild. My kids were all born many years before I was aware that I am Autistic. Had I been aware, I still would have had children, but I would have become an Autistic activist about 40 years earlier.

Do you have autistic sons?

She has grand-children, so I'm guessing at least one her kids is a girl...

Why? Last I checked, boys could be parents too.

It's related to an earlier joke I said in this thread, by hinting that usually female aspies get married and procreate, while aspie guys usually don't.
The joke is based on what I observe here (most girls get bfs and husbands while most chronic loners are male), and also on a very reliable study I mentioned earlier in other thread that shows how low the marriage rate among autistic men ~0%.
I recall a female member once asking women here in a threa why so many women here are married young.

If you put the pieces together, you'll see that my joke has some truth.

Aye, it makes sense if he said "assuming her kids are all aspies, one must be a girl aspie". But your question as to whether they were aspie (boys) wasn't even answered yet. Her NT boys could have kids...if I follow along with your "joke".

Anyway, off topic. Sorry OP.

Autistic men have a zero percent chance of getting married?!? Now that's a disturbing statistic. What study shows this?

Yeah, there are tons of parents here so I don't really see how this relates to either gender in particular. Life's not easy but that's never prevented me from enjoying myself. There are also genetic & epigenetic factors in any case of ASD, among other things so I'm pretty surprised to see the reasoning get so generalized. AS parents here have NT kids sometimes too. I'd have kids if I found myself with enough resources and time for that, I guess part of why I'm in no rush is valuing knowledge over money...

I asked about aspie ladies in particular because I want to know what they want :). I don't care much what the aspie gents are after.

My husband and I are both autistic. (He was diagnosed much earlier in life and received assistance so he's generally more possessed of social graces than I am.)

We haven't had children yet and are too poor to at the moment but we want to at some point, probably just one child though as they are very expensive.

The figure was more around 1%, at least among the sample they gathered but I can't seem to find it again, I think it was done by the NHS - not by some random source - but If I recall right it was including severe cases too.

There's also this:
http://a4.org.au/sites/default/files/AP ... OCT_09.pdf

Quote:
● People who were single were more likely to be assessed with ASD than people of other
marital statuses combined. This was evident among men: 4.5% of single men were
assessed with ASD.

Image

In the above, it shows ASD is 5 times (4.5/0.9) more prevalent among Single men than among Married/Cohabitating men.

If these figures are true, then there's about 20% chance for the average autistic to get a long term relationship - better than the 1% figure but not that encouraging.

I know I'm not a woman, but I agree. I enjoy spending time with my nephew and niece but it is tiring, and keeping them happy is hard. You need endless patience.

I wouldn't loose sleep over something not conducive with your lifestyle thought.

I think there is some issue with the mixed interpretation these statistics. if the 4.5% represents the present of single people in the population people of who are ASD, therefor you would expect the 0.9% to represent the percent of married people who are ASD in the population.

This is completely different from only 1% of ASD people being married, where the total demographic is not relevant. ASD people only make a small part of the population.

So which is it? I think the "Prevalence Amoung all adults and men only, by martial status" clears that up.

Anyway, I don't get the obsession with marriage or even co-habitation.

This is an interesting point actually. I mean, if Aspergers really is primarily a genetic condition, the primary transmitters for the condition have to be women, they just have to be. Most aspie guys can't even find a mate, let alone procreate.

my father was an aspie.
