I agree with Autismthinker.

Questions is a good and the usual go-to method for getting to know people, but pestering them with questions is not the answer.

You've also got to reveal little facts about yourself here and there, and hope you can get them to ask questions back or begin a conversation on those topics. Or begin deeper conversations on their interests.

There's got to be points where you don't actually ask a question, but make a statement that can still be made with a response.

E.g.: Fail #1:

"What's your favorite type of music?
"

"Pop Punk/Pop Rock. :D Wbu?"

"Oh, that's cool. What's your favorite artist? Your favorite band? Any other types of music you like? What's your favorite artist/band that's not rock?"

"Um (inset favorite band, artist, favorite non-rock artist, and non-rock band".

Here's what SHOULD have happened for a more, let's say, 'balanced' conversation:

"What's your favorite type of music?"

"Pop Punk/Pop Rock. :D Wbu?"

"Oh, that's cool. Me, I listen to a lot of electronic, but like some pop rock too. The stuff I like are blink-182, Paramore, Simple Plan, stuff like that."

"I like Sum-41, Panic At the Disco, MCR, and yeah the stuff you listen to is cool. Hm I listen to a bit of electronic mainly just Calvin Harris and Skrillex what DJs do you listen to?"

^That's two thumbs up!

Figuring out if a girl (or guy) needs constant conversation or not in order to be content with you is an important compatibility-test. Therefore, silence is a good test early on.
