LOL....I've never been able to do that, Jean. Never. Too shy. Never could get the right words out

I would hope that women wouldn't get offended by the interest a man would show in these instances, though.

Because the intention is not to be offensive. It's to get to know the woman better.

You? The Queens Casanova? The Prince of Pickups? The Heartbreaker?

I thought you'd be the absolute master of choosing the right words.

Finding them where your interests lie is good advice.

Though for physical world it would be tabletoppers most likely.

But Sports, Cafe, SCA, Cons, Church, the cute waitress that chats the extra 2 minutes with you....

I am an athlete by nature, but my close circle are form or joined in games. 4 of the 6 stable happy married couples I know. Met through games (one couple is 300lb 6'5 guy with 5ft tall elf for wife. We meet when we can every few years. Aussie n Icelander. ). And I know a lot of couples that were guildmates. And 3 of us are unusual.

Me and hunny were game friends, also he was a listener when I was broadcast DJ.

We became engaged when he proposed in 2012. Once we were together we wuz like peas n carrots... LC and his Jennay >_<

I've never been able to directly ask a girl out on a date, like Jean described.

I had to have at least a few minutes of conversation with the person before I asked her out.

See a girl you think is pretty or is engaged in an interesting activity?
Walk up and ask if you can take her out sometime.
"I really like watching the sunlight reflect off your hair. Can I take you on a picnic this weekend?"
"I see you're reading The Lost Girls. Can I buy you a coffee at that Starbucks so we can discuss Alan Moore?"

The secret is anticipating failure.
Because the whole endeavor took sixty seconds, you're not really invested in the outcome - and you didn't friendzone yourself. It's also efficient.

You might not ever get "comfortable" walking up to a girl to hit on her, but you will hone your technique through meatspace experience - and that's how you'll find what really works for you, because you're an individual and some things will work for you and some won't.
You will also likely develop a bit of a thick skin because you will be experiencing "casual" rejection [versus when you put more time into a girl before trying to take it to the next level] and the fact that it's not stinging as bad should make the whole ordeal a bit less intimidating.

Doesn't work for everybody... but if you wanna do something different, it may be worth a try.

Unless you have male model good looks that approach is going to fail 99% of the time. With model looks it will probably only fail 50% of the time.

Girls just aren't going to agree to dates with random strangers.

It is a numbers game. If dude's willing to walk up to and ask out 100 girls he doesn't know at a club, one is bound to say yes.

Yes, but you have to love a world where Alan Moore's "Lost Girls" can become part of a pickup line! :)

One is also bound to experience much rejection, and perhaps some not-so-nice looks from some of the ladies' boyfriends.

Yes. But a willingness to keep asking out different girls, huge numbers of them, pushing through the rejections/unhappy boyfriends, is statistically likely to eventually find a girl who says yes.

Tell that to this poor soul (guy who's been rejected 1,000 times):
