So don't get one if you don't like them. It's that simple.

What I don't understand is people taking issue with what someone else does with their own body. It's not on you, it's not your body, why do you care so much? If you don't like it, don't look. And maybe stop being so judgemental of things you don't understand, because they obviously do appeal to a LOT of other people. You do you, and let other people do their own thing. No need to get so worked up over other people's bodies and choices.

This. Exactly.

I've got tattoos. They are meaningful to me. It's okay with me if you think mine are ugly. I don't.

That would make it a drawing not a tattoo.

Depends... many I don't care for, some I think really compliment some people. In general I don't care for tattoos on others, especially not a lot of tattoos. But even people with a lot of tatts I can really like the tatts themselves and the way they look on them but just not find it to be a sexy look like some do. It's, in general, more of a sexual turnoff for me. However, some smaller very well done well suited tasteful tatts can be a sexy addition to one's look. Totally depends.

For the record, I currently have zero tatts and despite the fact that I prefer a "cleaner" look on others I do have long term plans of getting inked myself. Biggest reason I haven't started yet is my unwillingness to part with ~$5000 to do it.

I quite like the fact that having tattoos makes me repulsive to certain people. Helps sort the wheat from the chaff without me even having to do anything.

I totally agree with the OP: back in the day I even said flat out that I didn't want to date anyone with visible tattoos. Maybe it's the fact it is permanent or the fact it covers otherwise healthy, natural skin I'm not sure but I think they look repulsive. I further am puzzled as to why go many young people are getting tattoos on their wrists, necks, etc when jobs are already so hard to come by. Why make it even harder to get employment? That's not even getting into the massive cost of getting larger ones.

I predict that tattoo removal will become big business in a few years. The ONLY time I could ever see getting a tattoo is if I got a small couple's tattoo in a very private area but I highly doubt that would ever happen though! I know my opinion is not the most popular one here but I honestly can't understand why anyone would get anything permanent. At least with piercings or hair colour they can be removed if desired in the future.

As a general rule I hate tattoos and piercings.

The body should not resemble a jr. high dirt bags woodshop binder.

What I hate more is the normalization of such stupidity.

In some areas it seems to be bordering on expected for adults to have them.

Can you explain the rationale behind so much hatred for what other people do with their bodies? Like, I could understand if someone had forced you to get a tattoo against your will or something, but this level of vitriol directed at people who simply make different choices than you with their own bodies is really bizarre to me and I'd like to understand it better.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Tattoos look so ugly. I'd rather date a girl without any tattoos.

Even worse than tatoos is long finger nails. If a girl has long finger nails it makes her look like a dragqueen.

I think the long nails are kinda cool. I do my own nails and file them to knife sharp points to make them look like claws. It makes me look more like a predator instead of prey. Sometimes I paint the tips of them red so it resembles blood.

I probably won't get a tattoo because of my aversion to needles and concerns that someone might use unsanitary equipment, but I think some tattoos are cool. However, I do think they can be gaudy if the person is more ink than human.

It's not that I don't understand not wanting tattoos yourself; what I don't understand is being so upset over other people having them. Needing to insist loudly not just that they're not for you, but how much you hate that other people have them. That's the bit that I don't get, getting so worked up about what other people do with their own skin. Why do you care so much if other people have them? People talk about it like those who get tattoos did it to personally insult the person who doesn't like them, like we've offended you by marking our own skin how we like. My decision to get tattoos had nothing to do with you or how you feel about tattoos, so why do you have to get so worked up about it? Just don't get one, if you don't like them, and let other people live their lives as they are not hurting you in any way by getting their own tattoos.

I'm not hating on the people who get tattoos. We all make stupid decisions, and getting a tattoo does not make someone a bad person. It's just that tattoos are a huge turnoff for me. I wonder why someone would decide to ruin their skin with something so hideous and permanent.

Since you wondered, I'll tell you why I got mine.

Daisy on shoulder: For my growing up years I always thought tattoos were pretty, but that I would never ever do something permanent like that. Then, I worked at a Day center for intellectually disabled adults. There was this one guy in a wheelchair. He always had Mohawks. He also had TONS of tattoos. He loved talking about his tattoos. They brought him so much joy. I thought, "good for him". ...then I thought, "wait! Why is that good for him, but still something I would never do". So, I did. I got a tattoo to permanently mark myself to remind myself that I'm not better than anyone else.

Heart on hip with my husband's initials: That meaning is pretty obvious. But, it's also the one that's least meaningful to me.

Colorful Watercolor Phoenix on lower arm: I'm a stroke survivor. I'm a paralysis survivor. I've had many, many reasons to have died, but I haven't. I keep coming back from whatever life throws at me. So, I got the Phoenix to symbolize my strength and a "return from ashes". It helps me feel strong when I'm not feeling that way (like right now...I'm septic). Each color signifies a condition I've "conquered". So, yeah, universe...bring it on! ;)

It's okay with me if anyone thinks they are all ugly. They're not for you; they're for me. :)
