That's how I would distinguish. I know that mere
envy wouldn't move me to take someone away
from someone else - but something which feels
more like jealousy has been such a motivating
factor. The feeling of "No - that's mine, dammit!"
Not much different from when it really is.

Ah, so it's a sort of possessiveness then? Envy is wanting something you see as desirable, whilst jealousy is wanting something that you believe you have a right to? Can you be jealous of something that is currently yours?

Of course. I would regularly feel jealousy
about my women. That's why I made the
distinction about those which weren't properly
mine - it FELT exactly the same as though they
were.

I feel contented and hopeful for my own future when I see a happy couple holding hands, treating one another with kindness, etc. I feel sad and discouraged when I see spouses or boyfriends/girlfriends treating each other poorly.

This makes me sad now, for I assumed that
my wife and I would still be together at
that age. Still, I do feel some happiness
for them, for holding on - but I miss those
feelings.
