I used to be afraid of handing out a card to someone, because of rejection, or being made fun of. Also being afraid of receiving a card from someone I don't find attractive, because I don't like being rejected and I don't like rejecting people. It hurts and terrifies me to hurt someone in return, because I know how it feels. It has taken me a long time to be OK when things aren't lining up. Needs/Expectations. Seek what I like, put my needs first. My therapist told me that everyone needs a healthy dose of narcissism. Not more than what is needed, but enough to not make you feel like everyone is walking all over you. I'm not encouraging people to be narcissistic prick, but to balance out the alternative which is to be too avoidant. Which is what is happening in my case.

i don't really care about the concept, the commercialization, or the social pressure to have a 'date' on that day, but my GF (NT) seems to really want to do something on that day and i'm just gonna go along.

not least because she seems to have very little time on any other day, to spend with me. :(

I don't like flowers (they just quickly die in front of you...at least get a potted plant), and I have allergies to dust (no stuffed toys), and not a big fan of chocolate.

If you spend time together then it is nice. With exbf we cooked heart shaped foods, and watched horrible romantic comedies.

They sell chocolate. I buy salt-flavored peanuts.

Valentine's day looks fun (if you could really make it personal and not buy commercial s**t). Otherwise if you're like me and have been single all your life, you're just kinda reminded that you're single and you've always been. Not fun for someone in my circumstance...

OP, regardless whether NT or Aspies, generally most females love it, most males hate it, or think it's stupid and pointless, but still do it anyway and go along the rituals and the expenses...for their women.

Similarly to marriage anniversaries, diamond engagement rings, weddings and anything that celebrates love by making men pay.

I think it is ok, but I don't like the commercialization of it. To be useful and interesting, people should ignore the easy-to-buy stuff and do something themselves.

I'm not into it. I'm not into giving or getting gifts but I'll buy my girlfriend something for special occasions when she points out what she wants. I'd rather be affectionate with my girlfriend every day instead of having pressure one day a year.
I didn't like vDay when I was single because it made me more aware of the fact that I was alone.

It's an alright holiday. Its fine to show affection to the one you love. But it always made me feel alone, been single my entire life so it stings a bit to see others getting to experience it at least once.
