After I broke up with my first ex, I realized how much she had in common with my mother at a younger age it was almost frightening. The only different was she was overweight and my mother was a reasonable size back then. Today, not so much. I cringe to think I was attracted to *that* and it a source of great personal embarrassment.
I was never startled by realisation that my spouse has a lot in common with the two men I grew up with: my father and my uncle. I just came to a concusion that he fits my early-childhood archetype of a man.
i think this is actually the psychological explanation for the phenomenon

I'm the opposite. I've always been more attracted to women who were kind of the opposite of my mom except maybe for interests but opposite in personality & both my exes & current girlfriend are also kind of opposite in personality. I never got along well with my mom until after I moved out at 29. I had LOTS of meltdowns with her as a kid & teen. The last thing I wanted when looking for a partner was a woman who would act like my mom.
