Rarity adds value, no?

I guess it's that or rarity is a complete wild card.

would it be too much to ask you to elaborate on a specific ONE of your wants?

This is so true.

I'm afraid the issue with avoiding overthinking is that it can cause me to avoid thinking. If I'm not always considering how different I am from other people, someone's going to notice & possibly take issue with that. It kind of seems like I have to forget my past & many details of who I am to enter that state of mind.

I'm not agoraphobic but I'm also really tired of trying to prove that to women who probably aren't interested anyway. As a rule, everyone just walks away when they encounter any hints of my real feelings. I spend too much time with technology to not be seen differently & I don't enjoy this 'masking' thing but it also just seems like common courtesy towards the tiny minority that ever made an effort to treat me otherwise.

I'm genuinely relieved to read this from someone else, it's like reading my own thoughts. you're not different from everyone else - as I am not - but we seem to be a minority who are way too self aware / aware of our surroundings and thought processes and so we threaten those who "accept" reality and whatever narratives they were fed with growing up and thus we have to wear a more palatable mask if we want people to accept us. I always find that people are never too complex for me, but often i'm too complex for them. I've only met my match in a couple of people when I was at uni, who are on the spectrum interestingly and see the world in a similar way as me. now I'm working and I feel a huge disconnect because of this "polite" nonsense. I feel also as you get older it's harder to make genuine friendships. I thought i had something with this guy but he run off once I started opening up... it made me very sad. like it seems no one wants to have genuine connections anymore?

ps maybe i've misunderstood but I understood your "wants" as a desire to connect with others similarly minded- why are we on here otherwise? ;)

Ok; due to feeling misunderstood I just want to encourage more honest & candid conversations with the few women who seem to understand me at all, partly because I still don't have the foggiest clue how they managed that.

ok- I can grok that, I feel something of a similar way. but also, I tend as well to overload the sensibilities of sympathetic/empathetic people in my earnest tries at a head-to-head mind meld. so I have had to learn to dial it way back. too late, unfortunately.

I'm known to drone on in a rambling stream of consciousness but I wouldn't really say my social senses go that far, I usually stop myself when I notice a need to back up & explain something.

I don't think I would still be writing threads about these issues if I ever thought it was actually too late to become a better listener or conversationalist. The tricky part is keeping in touch while eschewing online communication. I don't have the energy to read into everyone's intentions electronically.

There’s always way more views than replies in most threads; not sure if unlogged viewers and Googlebots are counted too.

Personally, at times I find your English difficult, as if there's like a lot between the lines, so I don’t know what to reply.

English is a difficult language as a whole. I don't really hold misinterpretations against anyone because I lean pretty heavily on Latin & a bunch of other languages/jargon anyway.

I'm making threads like this because I think all of us need to get over our presumptions & misunderstandings ASAP. I'm not asking yes or no questions because I'm looking for subjective answers. Yes, there's a lot of subtext in my writing & many things I say, but it's about making you think, not to obscure me.

That's not really about you, it's just the nature of people and the internet. We all tend to be more wrapped up in our own problems. Or people feel they have nothing useful to say. Also, some people (not necessarily you) get pissed off when they don't get the response they want.

I think we've all posted things we cared about and got no reply at some point or other.

I can agree there, miscommunications & arguments in electronic conversations aren't actually real. Whenever someone gets mad at ole' autistic me over some digital channel, it's like it never even happened in real life because it basically didn't. A few kilobytes of negativity don't amount to much in reality.

Exactly. I rarely interact with you, but I like your posts. I don't know if we have much in common, but you seem like someone I'd respect and get along with in real life. There are tons of people here whose posts I enjoy, but rarely interact with.

That said, I do relate to your original post. So often, I have few people to really discuss my issues or troubles with, because their experience of the world is just different. My life isn't harder, just hard in (largely) different ways. That can be very frustrating. I hope you keep posting--to discuss the good and the bad.

I pretty much always keep my life cranked up to the maximum survivable difficulty. My job revolves around my insatiable addiction to technical challenges, so much so that I eagerly await even the most difficult conversations. Other people don't, so there's a lot of time for too much work before I get around to those.

French and Arabic are more difficult, English is super easy for writing and reading compared to them (but not speaking).

In fact, French words/nouns have genders and one needs to memorize them to speak it right, and the French people generally are very intolerant to mistakes btw even if you're a non-native speakers.

Classic Arabic is way more difficult, in particular the reading aspect because of its 'floating vowels' (short vowels) which have complicated grammatical rules and often not typed, and you have to perfect it in order not to be mocked, for instance Arab-speaking politicians often get brutally mocked by rivals when they read classic/press Arabic speeches while using wrong voweling, and typed texts often come without these short vowels. For speaking this is no problem because we never use Classic Arabic for speaking in the daily life, it's just a writing/formal language, and the local "dialects" (which are more like their own cousin languages) don't have such hard voweling rules.

The most difficult aspect of English is in the pronunciation of the words, which is very daunting and irregular (like the different 'i' pronunciations like time vs ship, ok this was two easy examples to memorize, but sometimes I get surprised, for example I was surprised to discover that I was pronouncing the word "tinnitus" wrong mentally as tinnetus while apparently most native English speakers say it as TIN-ih-tus when watching video, also like the word 'aspie' which I wondered back in the time whether it's aspee, or as-pie like in the word pie ), speaking wise it may be one of the more difficult languages.

I think one issue with English is that it's really not very expressive. Native speakers might appear emotionally stunted simply because we don't have adequate vocabulary.
