Yes, definitely.  Just as the person who asks for a date should pay for the date, so too should the person who asks for a marriage pay for the marriage -- rings, gowns, tuxes, venue, flowers, reception, catering, band/deejay, transportation, honeymoon, mortgage/rent, utilities, groceries, kids, day-care, cars, education, and the inevitable divorce (incl. alimony, child support, legal fees, et cetera).

Seems like a good reason for avoiding getting married. And for not asking anybody for a date.

Social identities are pretty foreign to most NDs, and so could just be ignored unless you are looking for NTs. Ideally, during ND courtship, people should have no idea about each other's social identities or position in the hierarchy. Which kind of proves it's a non-issue.

OP, try to convince first the society that it's ok for women to ask out men and pay for dinners, before convincing them to propose and buy rings.

There's still way to go before that.

I could go into a long rant about the real differences in courtship behaviors between men and women, but anything else I could add would either be obvious to anyone who has ever dated, or it would be misconstrued as sexist stereotyping.
