My only question though is whether that's really a rating of looks or a judgment of personality and status based on externals. I tend to think its much more the later.

yes because that is all women want money right? Actually these guys weren't rich. They had a sense of humor and treated the women like human beings. Some women really get turned off by the preppy guys into sports. So much to the point that when they meet a guy who actually wants to get to know her and has a sense of humor it's very refreshing.

Me personally, if a guy comes across as a female basher and has all of these negative implications about women being stupid, are only worth using for their bodies that makes me avoid him. I am not every woman, I cannot speak for them....only if I'm being sarcastic.

As far as I can tell, she has been doing a better job in that position that you were doing as her predecessor. :P

I think what's going on is that those so-called "unattractive" guys are not at all unattractive to the girls who chose to date them. A guy you find ugly doesn't have to line his wallet to find a date. He only needs to find a girl who is attracted to him. In my experience there are a great many women whose tastes do not conform to what you'll see in an Abercrombie ad.

For some reason, the guys in those ads always irritate the hell out of me.

Ya, I remember my ex-wife, when we were still dating, was giving me all these embarassing compliments about my looks and mannerisms, and I was like, "What are you talking about?" I never thought I was anything to look at, and I kept arguing with her that I didn't think I was, but she kept building me up.

I do that as well from time to time. No worries.

but I'd like to say it's not about money. I would post pictures of couples I've met in my travels but I'm sure they would object. The male in the instances I've seen didn't have alot of money. Some of the guys would see him out with females they thought were very attractive and wonder how he did it. One guy wondered if it was the other guy's phermones hah.

Well what did he do? From my observations, he spoke to the girls, he carried on a meaningful conversation about interests, hobbies and would throw in a compliment in the mix that wasn't overboard like you would hear some really aggressive males saying such as "I bet you would be great in bed" but instead made comments about how beautiful their eyes were. Then the guy would go back into having a regular conversation and didn't throw in more compliments.

This was just one guy though, I've seen several others doing the same thing. Also I've noticed another pattern. These guys didn't always get the dates they wanted from the first attempt. Instead of sulking and hating women, they didn't let it bother them and tried again.

It's the whole over-analyzing that dooms people at times. Sometimes over-anaylzing jinxes you. You will stumble and fumble when over-thinking. In this case, if you are feeling that way, find your vice. If it's a little alcohol great. Emphasis on a little.

There was someone that struck up a conversation with me a while ago that made me want to vomit.

He didn't refrain from talking about sex (I just met him what the hell)
He also showed me how much money he had (great, I'm supposed to be impressed like a prostitute?)
Talked about cars he owned. (yawn)
Sports (I don't care)

I wasn't attracted to him on the outside, wasn't attracted to him on the inside. His flashing of money gave me the impression that he thought I would make a great escort.
